Thanks for watching my videos.reat feedback on the prong collar and it is no longer used as a result of some great dialogue on this page. Keep the comments respectful and perhaps we can all learn something from each other.
While some supporters of the prong collar are on here, many harsh criticisms have been lodged and particularly from UK and other countries where these collars are actually illegal and punishable by fines. For anyone who wants to really know, I had a Dane prior to Finn who was a behavior problem from the beginning at 8 weeks when I got him. He was very fearful/aggressive and I should have seen that or questioned it when I met his half brother who shied away from me at the breeders house. I did not meet both parents (big mistake). The dog nipped and bit a few teenagers that came through my house in the first 2 years but I rationalized those away. I took him through very extensive obedience training. That is why I had a prong collar because he went through high level obedience training and they suggested the more forceful collar. Then he took a big bite out of a friend who was living with us' face leaving her with 20+ stitches with one wound 1/8" above her eye. Luckily the scars were minimal and she was very brave. She lived with us for 6 months before this incident happened and remained another 4 months. My wife witnessed it and nothing out of the ordinary triggered this. I had the dog put down within the hour. You cannot have an unpredictable 150lb dog. It was never truly needed for Magic or Finn but I had it on Finn for initial training when this video was made. With all the feedback, I realized that I did not need this collar. Then I stopped.

@@DCogsdil my dog was laying down once minding his business and two toddlers ran up and jumped on him. He was raised around old people, but he still did not flinch. If that had been multiple dogs i have had over the years woul not have reacted this way😯😯😯

Yorkies are tough and have small dog syndrome. Imagine if they were BIG and had that personality. My Dane got chased out of dog park by a mini dachshund that kept jumping at his face. Doxie had already been expelled from little dog side. Then the poor thing got expelled from big dog side. I felt a little sorry for her owner, she just didnt know how to play. Which is something their mama teaches them.

I like that you ask him to sit/stay/wait. As Dane owners, we have to make sure they have manners. Their size is so intimidating to most folks, and when you have a pushy Dane, it only makes people more scared. Mine are also not allowed to jump on shoulders. I think a lot of Dane owners like this "trick" to show size, but if they know they can do it to one person, it gets hard to keep them from jumping on others. Both of your babies are beautiful!!

I couldnt agree more with you. We got Lincoln to stop jumping on us and taught sit/stay/wait right away because we knew that people would find him scary. We've had people that just SCREAM in horror when they see him even though hes not doing anything but playing with other dogs.

My friend has a dog not sure if it’s a Great Dane but he’s relatively large and I have had bad experiences with dogs so I’m always nervous around them and they allow them to jump on people and he’s very pushy so he’s given me some panic attacks but they weren’t very concerned with how he acts and last time he got kinda aggressive with me and nothing was really done about it so it makes me even more nervous so I’m glad some people make a point for their dogs not to jump on shoulders

@@GenjiSimpOw sad that the owner didn't properly train their dog or even apologize to you! Last thing I want is leaving people terrified of my dog. They are VERY big and can really scare people even hurt them on accident. When my dane was a puppy, he got really excited to play with my sisters dog and as I was unbuckling his harness, he jump and his head dislocated my jaw. He was only 6 months at that time. Thats when my husband and I really started focusing on training him....hurt like hell LOL. I hope you one day meet a friendly dane. They are really big babies when properly taken care of.

You can have your sunset, Grand Canyon, Mountain Views, etc., but to me there is nothing more beautiful than than four paws, floppy ears & the love of a furry companion. Few things in (my) life have created a larger void, &. been harder to deal with than the loss of a best friend. I wonder if Finn & Magic realize they hit the “parent jackpot!” I bet they do. This is a Darlin’ Video! I just lost my Big, Wonderful, Sweet, Gorgeous, Funny Great Dane. She was old but still played with my grandkids and acted like a puppy! When it was her time, she just laid beside me in the bed like she always did, got snuggled up as close to me as she could, reached out her paw and pulled my 7 year old grandson to her. The 3 of us just laid there and hugged a few minutes, and she was gone. Our hearts are so broken.

Ohhhh. That's very sad. I had a Cane Corso that I had to take in. I was hoping so much he would pass in home. The whole month before I fought that day. I sat with him every chance I could and sang to him. Talked to him about his life. Took me two years after... Cried every day. I finally had a dog brought to my doorstep. I'm here looking at great danes because no matter how much my dog and I shake rattle and roll... I feel she's missing another dog companion because she started out with five. And she loves her cousin dog so much. Here... I'm rambling. Enjoy your day.

I just had one of my worst days at work in a very long time (nurse). I had my eye blackened by a patient (dementia, he can't help it) and I came home from work and this video popped up on my feed. Please put him in a seat belt for him and you, if you have an accident he will crush you and himself. (I got a bullmastif and she has an adapter for her harness to seat belt her in) Also, cute pupper, very well behaved and socialised I'd say.

When I used to show & raise Springer Spaniels, the only option in a car was a crate. Dog's are in great danger in a wreck by being un-restrained.

Unfortunately there are no car harnesses or crates meant for a dog that size that have passed crash testing. That said something is better than nothing.

I always have fun taking my Boxer Lilly to the pet store. She goes with me everywhere. Never a dull moment, no one can resist coming up to find out all about her. Dogs have always been a big part of my life. I can’t imagine life without a canine pal.

I have owned Danes for 30 years and have fostered many more. I currently have 2 of my own. They are amazing dogs but not really for everyone. You MUST have time (much more important than space) to give them the attention and affection....and training that they need to thrive!

I used to feed my Dane roasted chick hearts. Liver, oxheart, pilchards, bone marrow with gravy, and lots more. i never ever gave him any,' dog food' He came every where with me, when you have had a Dane it's very difficult to have any other breed. His favourite toy was Henrietta a big pink furry hippo. He wouldn't go any where without her. He was identical to your Fin. Gentle Giants .BIG LOVE! ❤

I had once upon a time two great Danes. One day, I had company for breakfast. We had pancakes. I told my friend to keep an eye on the cakes. My little Luna girl was watching the pancakes. He did not watch his pancakes. He looked down and the pancakes were gone. I told him do not under any circumstances make Luna feel guilty. He did not listen. He showed the empty plate to Luna, and I asked her “ where are my pancakes ?” You asked her several times. Each time she looked very upset. Finally, she put her head down and she threw up the pancakes. She wagged her tail sat down, looked at the regurgitated pancakes and looked at my friend and said I’m giving you back your pancakes are not a good girl?

Same thing happened at our house, only it was a Dagwood sandwich, my father in law was gesturing with half a sandwich in his hand. Everyone had already been instructed on not yelling at this particular dog. Because if you yelled at her she would stop right there and poop. (Someone had taught her to poop on command). I'm glad WE rescued her because some of eccentric habits were weird to have been taught behaviors.

My very first Dane was a small girl about 6/7 years old when she "adopted" me. We lived in an apartment with a sliding patio door. One night I had made spaghetti for dinner and right after sitting down at the table my daughter (age 4) said "Mommy, cops!" I turned to look out the patio door, didn't see anything. So, we got up and went to the window to look. Turn around and *BOTH* plates of spaghetti were eaten!

@@lorischeet5363 isn't it normal to teach your dog to poo on command. Like, when your puppy is about to go to the poo or pee you say 'Go toilet' and then you rewards after he goes. I think that may be a general command though you know.

@@jasondeaver2117 hey, read the description of the video. It will make you happy to read it. He took it off and never used it anymore. He had a dog prior to Fin and he was very agressive, nothing provoking him. I think it might have been to do with bad breeding/bad temperament and the prong collar was the last resort, then he had to put his Great Dane down. So he thought he had to use it on Fin, but he didn't, and it depended on the dogs temperament. Yeah that's it.

Oh how I miss our GD. We lost her about 10 years ago to cancer. She was 10. She was a gorgeous Merle named Sassy Madelynne Grey but we called her Maddie. Sooo sweet. They definitely are Gentle Giants and I never got tired of hearing how they looked more like small horses, etc because you can see them like on this video but you really cannot appreciate their size and gentleness except in real life... Both of your fur babies are very handsome!!!

Great Danes are the best and dearest dogs in the world! So much character, so gentle - incredible! We miss ours very much! We lost her in 2018 with 8 years and 5 months because of liver cancer 😔. Not a day goes by that I don't think about her.

We have always had rescue greyhounds, laziest dogs in the world 😄 you can kiss your sofa goodbye but on the upside all they do is sleep on it, they don't even notice you've gone to work except for the fact you disturb their sleep arriving home 😂

Nothing wrong with prongs They should be used for correcting the dog ONLY though

Don’t allow ignorant people to change your dog’s training or your collar choice. Majority of these people have never owned dogs, especially a breed that large. The prong is fine as long as its placement is correct. I use prongs on all my dogs because they are so gentle and have worn prongs myself. The misinformation out there is rampant and god forbid some place decide to make them illegal when they are such an important tool for large breeds that pull. Way more dogs end up in the pound when important tools are taken away.

Just don't keep them inside with it on or anything Dogs have escaped and got their collars stuck on things, resulting in their necks getting holes in them

@@nannoreul So when you wore prongs bit do get someone to correct the way you walked and change direction etc. A good trainer don't need a prong collar.

All I can say is good for you on getting rid of the prong collar. My daughter has two beautiful Danes and they are the most kind and friendliest breed just big and definitely learners. But a prong collar is not needed I don’t think with this breed because they are very gentle and if you are a good trainer which you seem to be, you shouldn’t and don’t need a prong collar. I think the prong collar is more for a breed that is hard to maintain, to get under control but they are so so harmful to the dogs I can’t bear to see the dogs wear them. So kudos and bravo for deciding to take it off!

I wouldn’t be able to just pet Finn if I saw him out and about. I’d have to HUG him 100 times! He is so handsome, well behaved and lovable! 💕True gentle giant. Love them both...Magic is a great example for Finn. ☺️

I've had both these breeds. Dane and boxer and they are just perfect breeds. Both are so silly and Velcro. Forever a Dane and boxer mom.

Sadly this one in the video have her tail chopped off :( They look a million times better with a proper tail. Unnecessary animal cruelty to chop their body parts off.

We have a Subaru and got a metal grate that fits between seat and ceiling. I love it. He has room to move, can see us, get A/C and heat, but is safely tucked away.

I must say you’ve done an amazing job training your pups. I have a 3 year old Great Dane named Luna and she’s got basic training down, but I can’t get her to sit and stay for the life of me. Finn is very smart and he knows what he’s doing :) My pup also loves to lean on people, and it may be a Great Dane thing or just a big dog thing, but man she loves to lean and get her luvs. Thank you for this adorable and wholesome video :)

It's always warming to see a sweet relationship between dog and Dad. Love how Finn must snuggle his face up against yours in the car. It's obvious when dogs are loved. I'll be stopping by to see more Finn.

We have had a two Great Danes and a Boxer combo for nearly thirty years. They are usually from rescues and end up being the best of pals. We love both breeds and have been lucky enough to give them all a good life. 🙂

I have a black dane, Buck. My grand old man has just turned 9. He was a rescue, fortunately he'd never been abused but he had 4 different owners before the age of 2 and nobody had taken the the time to teach him any manners. It took time but with consistency, patience and love he's become a wonderful companion with excellent manners. The bigger the dog the better the manners need to be. Over the years I've had the pleasure of rescuing a rottie, Sheba, a neoplolitan mastiff, Mugsy and an english mastiff, Bronx....and my pugs. People think they want a pony in their house but think long and hard before commiting to having these beautiful massive babies in your life. ❤

I am so happy to see the comments about the prong collar. Training my own dogs, it’s never worked. Personal note: I’ve rescued 5 Danes from the Peninsula Great Dane Recuse Society here in CA. Most people don’t know how large a Dane can and will get. While they are very easy going ( with proper training ) most don’t have the yard size or commit to walking them. They also aren’t aware that they are very head strong and will dominate an owner. Last pup I raised was a black lab/Dane. First dog I had from a pup to passing. Best dogs ever!! Enjoy your love for the loving giants!!

Every person who saw my Titan (who was also a fawn German Mastiff) said he was the biggest dog they’d ever seen. At his healthiest physical peak he reached 230 lbs. and 37 inches at the shoulder. Yes, really. Finn is beautiful, and he makes me miss my Titan. He was THE giant among giants, but the sweetest, most gentle boy ever. I hope to have another Dane someday. I don’t mind the slobber. 😊 Thank you for sharing.

Oh he's just so fantastic. My Dane is 9 months. She's not too bad in a car. We're slowly working on her car sickness, due to anxiety. She's a rescue, so I'm sure she's related car rides to a new home. She's learning though, that we're never leaving her.

I grew up with Danes. Instead of wagging their tail at you they lean on you! Love love that! They are super sensitive and loving! Finn is a beautiful boy!

I accidentally got a Great Dane boxer mix. People I got him from swore he was fathered by their German Shepard, they didn't think their Great Dane had it in him anymore as he was getting quite old for a big dog. I now own an 11 month old 100+ lb horse dog

My baby boy, Buster, tore up all his toys save one, a cheap, white teddy bear we've named "Rufus". "Rufus" is his favorite wrestling partner, and he gives him "lovin's", it's a beautiful thing.

Indestructible toys are only indestructible for toy breeds usually lol I used to have a mastiff that loved basketballs, pop them in under a minute. Would get him cow femurs, he would crunch through the joint on them in 30 minutes tops.
