Finnish Grammar lessons:Happy Eino Leino Day
The Description:
Here is the English translation of the poem.
However, this version is more or less just generally translated, seeing
that the original has some fancy- poetic- old timey finnish words that
would not really be used in day to day talk ( even though they do sound nice XD )
"Sua katson vaan" ( "I just look at you" )
By Eino Leino
"Sua katson vaan, sua katson vaan,"
( "I just look at you, I just look at you" )
"sua katselen silmät veessä."
( "I look at you with watery eyes" )
"Tää onneni on niin outo ja uus,"
( "This happiness of mine is so odd and new" )
"sen että mä vapisen eessä."
( "that I am trembling in front of you" )
"Kun sydän on auki, on kiinni suu,"
( "When the heart is open, the mouth is closed" )
"mun syömeni hehkuu ja halaa."
( "My heart glows and embraces" )
"Sua katson ja säästän ja silitän vaan"
( "I just look at and conserve and stroke you" )
"kuin kerjuri leivänpalaa."
( "Like a beggar with a slice of bread." )
"Minä joka en nauttinut onnestain"
( " I, who has not enjoyed my happiness" )
"kuin sieltä ja täältä murun!"
( "no more than a crumb here and there!" )
"Tää pöytä mulleko katettu ois?"
( "Has this table been set for me?" )
"Ois tullutko loppu surun?"
( "Has this sadness come to an end?" )
