Dear Finn and Sherlyn, I am glad you guys are all safe. That is the most important thing. I live up the hill, similar to your new home, in Southern California. Every year, about two or three fires come very close to our home. The insurance companies will not insure me anymore. What I have done to protect my property is make sure that the hillside is always clear of debris. Also, I have built some walls for fire break and have a path so firetrucks can easily access the property. My second line of defense is a sprinkler system on the hillside that I can control from my house. My third line of defense is a sprinkler system on top of my home; I also have a pool, and if you can get yourself a Honda 5 HP water pump, that would be the best with 1-1/2" fire hoses. I have 500 feet. I can go down the hill and another 500 feet up the hill and shoot a stream of 50 to 75 feet, so I also have 10 gallons of fire-retardant foam that hooks up to the pump. It will make your house look like a snowy Christmas Day. In the worst-case scenario, if I'm trapped, I have three scuba diving tanks in my pool area. In case the fire overtakes me, I just jump into the pool. I never had to jump into the pool yet, but I have come close and hope the house doesn't burn down and fall on top of you. You should also buy some fire gear, including clothing with fire-retardant properties. It's lightweight and mainly to fight wildfires, but I'll keep you from getting minor burns from flying ambers. Also, a helmet, Safety goggles, and respirators are a must. When you finish, you will look like a fireman; you should at least have a respirator for the helpers; manufacturer by 3 M, N95 8511 are the ones I use. Otherwise, within the coming days, they will start having difficulties breathing due to burned debris; the other thing that I have in my garage is an air tank with a regulator and mask, so if I have to drive through the fire, I will be able to breathe and not pass out and become a victim due to fire the sucking the oxygen entirely out. The last thing that becomes the hardest is getting the local fire department and the community together and teaching them fire safety. They need to realize that the weather has changed from years ago. It has become hotter and drier. It is a perfect combination for a major disaster. Good luck to both of you and I will make sure I see you next time I'm there. We will go diving in your new boat.

large water storage, power, a large pump, sprinkler system and a tractor. You've pretty much got it covered! When your pool is full a big pump and large redundant sprinklers. Now you can see your weakest area.

Yikes!! As a resident of Northern California and Oregon, I've seen up close the damage wildfires can do. Be wary of fires re-igniting, esp on windy days, Finn & Sherlyn. (The infamous Oakland Hills fire in 1991 was particularly devastating.) Glad you're home to tend to the emergency. Take care.

Sorry you had such a scare from the fire. I’m glad you shared this. The aerial views were quite informative. Your plans for clearing land and a water reserve are excellent. A lot of people think tropical areas are spared the dangers of wildfires. Your video shows exactly how dangerous dry spells can be. It’s very common where we live for families to burn their trash and yard debris, making a smoldering fire. To keep the lamook away. They make the same common expression…..there’s no wind. But winds get generated really quickly. Glad to see you’re safe

Having come upon a house fire I had to alert the fire department and attempt to slow its destruction. Unfortunately water hoses cannot stop a raging fire, many homes destroyed that day and one firefighter lost his life. Smoke and the extreme heat can overwhelm unbelievably fast. Hi Finn In Australia We have Extreme Wildfires . Best protection is ❤ keeping trees & undergrowth near home to minimum. 2nd Once U get your Pool finished , Buy a decent reliable ( Honda , Yanmar style ) Or similar , not china , Diesel Fire pump ( They can run in thick smoke , where a petrol will cut out ) w Electric start, with in-built battery & solar , So it's Easy for Wife to start if U not home . Fire pump And proper commercial fire hose reels , mount on wall ,usually 19mm & 36 metre long , on each side of house . Pump Usually duel 2 & 1/2 " outlets on pump + 3" suction in pool with non return valve on suction pipe in pool . Your pool would run a pump for days 👍 Fuel tanks usually 6 to 12 + hours & You could Also look at putting a dedicated poly supply line underground To outlets Or Sprinklers Around perimeter & Eve's of U house . A lot of information on net Bushfire Protection Systems / equipment 👍 Also roller shutters on exposed sides of home helps 👍 You have, Both Built a Beautiful❤ Home , So a bit of extra money on Fire protection Is just like adding CCTV , Solar Security alarms Starlink etc. Had 40 + years experience 👍 . You can even have a remote start pump from Phone app Anywhere in world But U have a caretaker anyway 👍 ✅ AUSTRALIAN-GUY

Crazy. I'd be afraid of that happening at night. It happens like that almost every week in California. The ones in California are really bad....you could wake up to the whole mountain around you on fire. Definitely need to be careful. But glad everyone's alright. I did laugh a little when they were literally "fighting" the fire in the beginning. But love how Filipinos stick together and take care of it right away and take care of each other.

@FinnSnowVlogs Living in California where wild fire or just ordinary neighborhood fires occurs every now and then still makes me nervous and scared because it happens anywhere and anytime. I am glad it was contained and it happened during daytime and good thing you are home and your workers are there. Thank you guys for your quick response and I am glad no one is hurt. Always have a ready fire extinguisher, first aid kit, heart defibrillator and extra supply of water especially you live in the mountain. Sometimes some people are so careless, they start burning stuff around their properties , burning thrash, when they do some clearing to start farming on their land they start burning the grass or bushes. Stay safe and be careful.

They do “KAINGIN” which is quite normal in the Philippines which means to plant the area being burned so it will be a fertile soil after burning. Usually they plant upland rice which is a very good variety of rice because it smells so good when you cook it and good to eat.

It's so scary. Forest fires are so dangerous and scary. In Canada last year, in 2023, 45.7 million acres of forest land were burned from wild forest fire. Please be careful and always educate the people around you and the community about throwing out cigarette butts in the grassy areas or walking around the grassy hills or forests. Lightning and thunder cause wild fires, especially if the weather is very hot and windy. Take good care of all of you. Water source is very important in your area. Hope and pray all of you are safe.😇🙏❤️

Maybe do a controlled fire in small spots at a time (with lots of water on site), to burn the dry growth around the property. That might give you a buffer a zone in the event of any future fires outside your perimeter.

This situation is concerning. I recommend purchasing multiple fire extinguishers to help contain the spread of fire, especially if it's already in your backyard or near your house. Consider installing a home and yard fire hydrant, acquiring a large water tank, and ensuring you have working smoke alarms. The recent devastating fire in Canada, particularly in Alberta last summer, covering over 16 million hectares-larger than the entire land area of Greece-serves as a stark reminder. I hope the local government implements a mandatory ban on burning garbage during this dry season to prevent such incidents.

I'm glad you are all safe. It is very stressful. There was a fire behind our house. We were saved by the high firewall. Nonetheless it was still very stressful and I have PTSD drom it. I read from the Florida fires there was a century old house saved. What saved it were river stones that surrounded their house. Maybe it's sometjing that you can look into for your property.

this kind of forest wildfire has always been my worrysome whenever i see people who love to build a home in the mountains.. i have watched how the US particularly the state of California .. and we all know why.. but then those forest fires were no longer limited to calif alone.. last year we saw the news about how australia and canada were also devastated by the same tragedy as well as some parts of europe. and now we can clearly see that this can happen anywhere. so just please be careful.. fires in the cities are so rampant due to carelessness but farms are no longer exceptions. we all love nature.. we love trees and plants but i think they should always just be our sources of food and sheds but forest is their home so let us always remember that forest is their kingdom. we should keep our distance where they exist so that their existence and ours wouldnt be put at risk. i think this a way how mother nature gives you back what you have been giving it too. it wants to protect you from future harms because you love and protects it too. thanks to this incident and consider it a blessing in disguise because you are now more aware .. isnt it.. because love begets love and respect begets respect. god bless you.

Mindanao been getting all your rain. So curious how conditions can be so different from one island to the other. Hope you get some much needed rain soon; that was too close for comfort. Scary, and I agree with Sherlyn that it was a blessing in disguise, so you can be better prepared, even if you never need it, and lets hope you don't. Kudos to the construction guys.
