As someone who has been through a few abusive relationship seeing volleyball and pearl interact was just, the best for a number of reasons.

New Steven Universe Future theories coming very soon! But for now, here's an episode analysis I've been meaning to release for a while now. ^w^ Hope it's entertaining!

The title is a sentence I never thought I would hear before Steven Universe Future released.

My favorite part from this episode is that, despite still loving Pink/Rose, Pearl DID NOT make excuses for her: "But you were hurt, BADLY hurt."

I still can't fully comprehend how much Steven Universe helped me grow. Pearl is an amazing character and I related to her from the third episode onwards. The way she acts is so simmilar to myself and from her reaction towards anything Rose related I could tell early on that we had someting else in common as well. Seeing someone riled up about something that they know should be a thing of the past is not often depicted, and seeing her grow, learning to be there for herself, slowly trying to move on, it helped me go that way myself. I thought it had peeked with Independant Together, but when this episode came out, it released a bunch of feeligs I can't even describe. Pearl is a character that shows us that we can be vulnerable and that we can allow ourselves to be, happy even if things in our past might haunt us for the rest of our lives, and that it is ok to feel what we are feeling. I'm never not going to cry during a major Pearl episode, and I'm completely fine with this fact.

I loved this episode immensely and it's become one of my top 10 Steven universe episodes of all time, this was a prefect allegory to people who suffered through abuse and Pearl and Volleyball were the perfect characters to present this scenario ^^ And I loved their fusion and it's my favourite fusion and I ship pearl X volleyball ^^ Great video Finny ^^

I don't know why, but when I first saw this fusion, the name that immediately came to me was "Pearlescence". I guess it just fits for her in my opinion.

This a great review/analysis. Volleyball is without a doubt my favourite episode of Steven Universe Future so far. I have a lot of love for Pearl and it was so great to that the two Pearls were finally able to get some closure regarding Pink. They still have a long way go but they are on the path the healing. I loved how the show addressed that Pearl even though Pearl has grown a lot since her Rose obsessed days she is still hurting and still not willing to deal with the pain Pink Diamond caused her. Yes Pearl's pain is not as obvious and immediately horrifying as Volley Ball getting injured from due to an angry outburst from Pink but it is still there. Pink wanted to be better but in her quest to be better she roped Pearl into starting a rebellion, unintentionally sold Pearl on a dream that after the war they would be together and after the faked assassination and everything that came with that Pearl was forced to carry the burden of knowing the truth but not being able to share it. I don't have the same hate on for Pink/Rose as some of the fandom does, to me she was well-intentioned but impulsive. You see a lot of this in Steven as well but the difference being that Steven grew up with authority figures that helped control the fall out from some of his more impulsive actions. Even in this episode you see him trying to hide the fact that Pink hurt Volleyball from Pearl and then lashing out in anger because he can't deal with hearing about more of Pink's actions. Yes, in the end it all worked out for the best but it could just as easily gone horribly wrong. I curious to see what happens next for Steven and I hope we get to see more of Volleyball down the line

Fun fact: for oysters the pearls are like painful blisters to them while we see it has beautiful pearls

Much like how Pink Pearl's nickname of Volleyball doesn't quick click for me. I also feel that Mega Pearl doesn't quite feel like an appropriate nickname, compared to other fusion names we've heard

Not to mention, when Volleyball has her eye shut and waving her hand, as if brushing it off, you can see her cracks spread, showing that just talking about it is painful.

Great video! I'm just a little disapointed you didn't mention Steven emotionnal state in that episode thought. Btw, I've been thinking lately and I'm starting to think "Volleyball" was actually suppose to be episode 3 and "Rose buds" was meant to be episode 4. The reason I think this is because of Steven saying "After everything that happens, I'm not sure if I still want her haggning over us" in Rose buds. At first, I thought Steven was talking about the events of the movie, but it's been months in the timeline of show, so why only give a reason now? But if he was talking about the events of the rifts, it would make a lot more sence and tell us in a way that they did talk about the events of the rift off screen... Basecly, I'm saying that switching these 2 episodes would make the story a lot more fluid... Only, if my theory is right, when CN would switch these episodes? because Volleyball was a better episode to end the hour special of course 🤷‍♀️

3:29 "attacking" might be a bit too extreme a word for it, Ya know the outburst Steven has in that same ep? I think it was something like that multiplied by pinks emotional abuse and mistreatment by the other diamonds. I think It wasn't intentional. it was just BAD for everyone. Her eye cracks further when she "makes excuses" not because she is lieing or that the reasons given for the damage aren't valid, but because she is repressing the hurt she feels. Like saying "it's okay, it was an accident" and "she didn't mean to" it's denying the very real hurt she feels, repressing rather then healing.

Yeah gonna have to disagree with “oh i wouldnt be surprised if she punched her”. It’s pretty obvious the damage was a collateral to pink’s tantrum, not pink outright taking it out on Pink pearl.

For now wait until Steven Universe future is done for the ten words or less fusions. It should save you some headaches in the future.

After this episode I had 2 main thoughts: 1) I absolutely *adore* Volleyball and wish her only happiness! 2) I find myself hating Pink/Rose a bit more than I did before (at this point Spinel’s abandonment is just about her worst crime to me ... basically causing a genocide aside) Thanks for sharing your thoughts as always my favourite Blue Adventure Pony! Just like in friendship, I would like to see pearl and Volleyball/Garnet work their issues without having to fight for their lives in the process.. If a few seconds talk was all they needed, then why not have it in peace and then get the "awesome fight".

Note: We never got to even see if Volleyball's eye became normal, even after seeing her, which feels intentional

In my opinion, this is the best episode.

Despite what some fans may feel about pink diamond, you have to(if you wish to of course) understand that despite her flaws... she really did tried to be a better person in the end and I have a strong belief the pink pearl incident was the catalyst and turning point for her as seen in the flashbacks throughout the series (but in reverse) how she started out as an inpatient child princess who would have temper tantrums that cause great damage ( implied to have been done in secret as yellow or blue makes no comment on this whenever they were disciplining pink/steven), to a truly kind and (most of the time) benevolent leader of a band of freedom fighters and protector of earth. Does this mean we have to forgive her for everything... No of course not but that's doesn't mean we ignore every good she done ether. If there's one thing to remember is that pink was a complicated character and was written that way on purpose.

I think everyone is forgetting that we are seeing pink diamond's journey backwards. There is a video that explains her timeline in the correct order. She is not a perfect or even particularly great person. But she does grow. Her cautionary tale is not to idolise people. If you put someone on a pedastol they will always let you down. Pink diamond did grow as a person. She did learn from her mistakes. That doesn't erase those mistakes, especially not the hurt she caused, but she isn't an unfeeling monster. She is a person who comes from. An abusive household trying to get better. Unfortunately, victims of abuse often end up abusing those around them as well. Trying to fix those behaviours is a very difficult but important journey. Just a message for anyone who, like me, sees a lot of themselves in pink diamond and is kind of reeling from all the hatred she gets. It's funny that the two characters I identify with are also the most hated in the fandom. Maybe I just suck

I think white taking controll of pink pearl was the best move outside of rejuvenation. Pearls cracks got worse when she denied her trauma, had she been allowed to just be it could have gotten to the point where it affected her actual gem.

Volleyball is a great episode mostly cause new ship cause I have shipped almost everybody in the show with other gems that's weird I'm going to stop now..
