Hi Adam, to add to your very informative video. Many new divers will try their fins on like a shoe. You did mention buying a size up if you are using socks (Tip: Try it on with the sock). But it is important when trying fins on to flex the foot (natural diving/swimming position). When standing your finger should be able to squeeze in the side. When foot is flexed it should feel snug.

Beginner here! I've been watching your videos for several months and really appreciate all that you do, Adam :) I'm currently using Cressi Agua as my fins, a regular snorkeling fin until I become more used to being in the water. Can't wait to try out the sexy factor of long fins! For girls/women wanting to get into freediving: please don't get discouraged if you can't find a fin with a small enough foot pocket or one that's an ideal stiffness and don't let others discourage you by saying you can't freedive! For some reason freediving is viewed as a very macho activity where I'm from (and not something you do for its own sake, usually it's paired with spearfishing), I literally had store clerks tell me manufacturers/brands "don't care much" for women freedivers and that finding a pair of fins for myself will be almost impossible (all while watching women kick ass at Vertical Blue!). I'd love to watch a video about proprioception underwater and becoming more aware of what your body is doing. As soon as my head is underwater (and I'm still really not doing much apart from trying to get a hang of equalization), it's like I forget I have legs and how to use them for any sort of sensible movement. I'd like to feel less detached.

I've been freediving for a few years and on some trips I just bring short (snorkeling but closed footpocket) fins. I find it more convenient to pack in my luggage and carry around with me all day when we're doing shore dives. Everyone has different needs and should pack accordingly, although I try to always bring my 3lb weight belt, it just makes diving deep easier. Greetings from San Francisco

45 Years ago I started with snorkeling exploring the depth upto fourteen meters. At the age of fifteen I achieved my scuba license. Twenty years ago I found my way back to the easy way of diving wherever and whenever I want. My freediving license then opened a door in the water were previously only was a gap. This is my way and there are millions of other ways in every direction not better and not worse than mine, because everyone has his own reality. There is no truth, only fun or no fun. So you are totally right. Let's all spend good times together in the water. I really like your channel!

I’d like to purchase those just for recreational diving and I’m not sure if I’d be able to switch to fibreglass or carbon blades later on in future, are there specific blades for this fin or do other brands fit with the foot pocket? Hi Adam, thanks for the video, very informative and interesting! I'm looking for a pair of fins to spearfish with and to dive down to catch crays with. I'm usually in waters 5-10m deep. I weigh a 100kg and am 6 foot 3 with a reasonably athletic build. I'm looking for the goldy locks fins that will actually push me under water but won't gas my legs out/raise my heart rate too much, (I was thinking medium to hard stiffness??). Im a US 13 and think I have a wider foot. If you could recommend some beginner to intermediate fins that would be awesome! All good if you cant though as I understand you would be busy, thanks again for the video!

I've started with snorkeling fins for the Pool Training, then after my kick was strong enough, I bought the leadefin carbon fiber blades (mid, now I want the soft one more) and put it on a Pathos footpocket (very light weight and a super power transfer). With a hairdryer I melt a bit the footpockets on my feet's, press all sides, let it cool down and now I have very comfortable custom footpockets. Because of the bad evil rocks, I add a car wrapping foil on the blades, looks cool and works perfect for me.

By the way guys I have those first shorter, black, plastic, cressi fins and I really like them for diving 15 meters or less but I have never felt limited by the fin they are very good for on caves and for grabbing Cray's as they almost never get in the way.

Im planning on taking a freediving class soon i just have no time to right now being that none of the classes near me are being taught at times that work with my schedule, so I have to wait a few months. Hi Adam. I'm a recent subscriber and am really enjoying the video content. This fin selection video raised a question that I've been thinking about for a while now. Some years ago, my wife had foot surgery which left her with limited range of motion in her ankle which makes it impossible for her to point her toes of the right foot. Since then we have been on several snorkeling excursions. She has gone barefoot to avoid the discomfort caused from using fins on that foot. She even tried using just one fin on her good foot but that didn't really work well. Is she just out of luck or are you aware of a type of fin that can be used without having to point your toes so much. Thanks a bunch.

Great video Adam Freediver. But I think you missed out one factor which affects mainly new freedivers. This Fitness & Strength. Bigger, longer, stiffer fins need more leg strength & fitness. So its not a good idea to get large stiff fins if you are just starting out. You'll get tired quickly and cramp. Then when you get fitter, you'll have a great experience when you try Carbon blades for the first time 😊

It was funny when you were talking about you wouldn't use a monofin for leisure dives and swimming with fish because that is what I do lol. I love my monofins. It does depend on what monofin you are using. The competitive free-dive monofins are generally stiffer and larger but you can get smaller monofins that allow for greater maneuverability such as the Finis foil and Finis shooter. I have a Finis Rapid and a Mahina Merfin because yep, I'm a mermaid. :)

Hey Adam love the content! I've been freediving for years and have seemed to plateaued. Ive taken freediving courses and could not figure out the frenzel equalization technique until I stumbled onto your channel. I'm trying to take the next step and would like to see a video on exercise,stretching, and diet? I've heard rumors about cardio being bad for your resting heart rate. To taking a freediving course and the instructor mentioning that certain chest stretches improve lung capacity. Also what you eat before a dive makes a big difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Aloha

Hi Adam, thanks for your knowledge. I have a quick question about how to choose the right fin for me. I weigh 52 kg, 153 cm high. I am planning to buy a soft blade fins, but I cannot decide which blade length to choose, the two choices are 70cm and 80cm. Is it something I should consider my size and body weight as well?

Re-watching this I just realized that my fins have stiff blades. 😅 However, it doesn't feel that way unless I put the insoles into the footpockets which makes the footpockets (not the blades) both very rigid and as snug as my feet will allow. When buying my fins I focused on the footpockets and their fit (because the blades are exchangeable) and I'm still happy with my choice because, personally, I wouldn't want them to be any "floppier."

Love your videos Adam. One thing you did not touch on is blade stiffness effect for those doing longer surface swims to a site. I must admit that I have stuck with relatively soft fins. Are stiffer fins more difficult for surface swimming?

Hi Adam ... I do mostly lap pool and it takes 36 laps for a mile... I would like to get a full range of motion flexible fin for stiff hips... they don't need to be as long as a freestyle type , so I am wondering if you can recommend a flexible fin for lap pool... thanks for the great info.. JS
