Fintan McCarthy, Paul O’Donovan take gold in lightweight double sculls - Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Күн бұрынFintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan earned Ireland’s first gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics as they won the men’s lightweight double sculls.
The duo overhauled Germany to win by under a second at the Sea Forest Waterway, with Italy taking a distant third.
It was Ireland’s second medal of the Games after the women’s four earned bronze on Wednesday.

Why are these ignorant, uncouth " reporters? " continuing to ask such nasty and demoralizing questions of the German team? These reporters certainly don't reflect the sportsmanship and friendly competition that the Olympics are founded on.

In 2016, we weren't in the middle of a World Wide COVID Pandemic with multiple variants. in 2016, athletes didn't have to compete in the Olympics with mandatory social distancing, mask wearing, and without any spectators, in the stands..

Actually, Paul toned it down a bit (but not much) for the press conference. Still, he was perfectly understandable. Mind you, I would say that wouldn't I for I'm from "next door" in Co Waterford. When your man there announced that there'd be interpreters, I was so hoping they'd all speak German, Irish or Italian - three languages I speak fluently. I was so disappointed when they all (apart from the Italians) spoke English. MsG

LOL I'm pretty sure the athletes don't care. Paul is studying to be a surgeon, and has been wearing an N95 mask at some appearances. After the amount of sacrifices Olympians have to make, wearing a mask is hardly going to rate as an annoyance. They have bigger things to worry about.

@@kukui79 With delta variant and two more variants of the SARSCoV2 virus, I'm quite sure that the athletes are okay wearing masks.Most of us who work as physicians and nurses wear a mask continuously, with a face shield, all day long.
