I would use the adjective “personal” rather than “myopic” to describe your music. If your music speaks to me, and it does, it is not myopic. Everyone loves to call you a “genius” because it is true. :-) (I want to spend the next 3 hours here writing you compliments!) THANKS for being the person that you are, Fiona.

This is wonderful, but interestingly enough even the 1st thing that you said about how remembering scary stuff is simply a a survival thing …it was equally comforting cause if I can just tell myself “oh I’m safe now and I can forget and avoid that stuff now and so don’t have to dwell on it” that helps too 💕

I love you SO much, Fiona. And that's good advice. And I also HATE fireworks. I'm glad you are court watching, because I think you are a person who can bring awareness to the public about the stuff you've learned, and are learning, from being a court watcher. I also think you have enough distance from the proceedings to mostly not get triggered by it. I'm sure you do sometimes, but you wouldn't be doing it, if you couldn't handle it emotionally. Me watching it though, would *not be a good thing, because I believe that America's judicial system is basically a horror show, with at least 90% injustices happening everyday, all day long, in many different ways-just mistakes, and people abusing power, and missing truths, and making decisions that ruin people's lives, all day long. I do not believe that "justice" is a real thing. I believe that the only "justice" that exists is understanding. And we are not evolved enough yet to understand ourselves or eachother enough, to know how to make healthy decisions for anyone else. It's just one clusterfuck shit show after another. Especially in America. You are doing things to help change a lot of that, and that's also why I think it's good that you are court watching. I think the ways in which I can help change things for the better, are in a different way, that is more interpersonal, so I will keep going towards that, to contribute to positive change. I will continue to sign petitions too, about the things I believe in. But yeah, no court watching for me. I'm too traumatized & pained by it.

You're a beautiful soul! A lot of the meditation work I did decades ago focused on getting to a good place and holding it mindfully. After a while, you can just think of that space and get there, but you need to keep flexing that muscle. Lots track of it. This reminded me... Will do.

Oddly...wonderfully, as I looked for you Fiona, in a playlist yesterday THIS video came up too. After listening I've added it to my "Calibration" playlist. This list is a series of great cues and items to dwell on pre-meditation, pre-imagineering, pre-dwelling in a contemplative state. I even go to this list before cooking or cleaning to bring myself into a happier more relaxed place. A beautiful advisement. We benefit greatly by savoring the good stuff, and I'd contend that while it's beneficial to have thick skin and resolve, it is equally important to have some community who accepts and adores us simply for being. It might be a community of one other, a pet companion, a neighbor. The safety in that is priceless and promotes the cultivation of our emotional growth. I happily practice with you and I appreciate your presence. Thank you.

One of the things that helps me keep my depression at bay is, every morning over my first cup of coffee I write down things I’m grateful for that morning. It almost always starts with a similar sentence, “Woke up feeling well-rested and good,” (assuming that’s true, of course) just because writing that sentence makes writing further positive things easier, such as “My new pen and ink is supposed to arrive in the mail today,” or “Today’s Sunday, which hopefully means a new Fiona Apple video!” Taking a moment to acknowledge and write down positive things like that (and only positives; no negatives allowed in that notebook. I have another notebook where I can write anything I’m feeling in if I need, but I *always* write in the gratitude journal) really helps set the mood for the day and gets me totally amped for the tiny joys.

The way I see it is ... the album is high-spirited, open and outgoing, like the picture on the cover. Which isn't to say that it pulls any punches. It doesn't. I think if you blast it in real stereo and dance around to it for a full couple of days (for starters), it might grab this time in your life by the scruff of the neck and lift it up. The comment is positive ..the user name is redundant. I hope you understand and realize Last Days comment is a fantastic example of Fiona's intent; take 30 seconds to dwell on something positive, NOT on your negative feelings induced by a user name. Surely you have something positive you can dwell on for 30 seconds? If you do not, I'm happy to help you find something positive that you can appreciate each day and rewire the neural pathways in your brain, so that you can start benefitting from the neural pathways you can build and nurture your way to a more positive outlook overall. I strongly believe in GRATITUDE for achieving the same result, as well as being of service to others, helping them through the bullshit and negativity...it benefits you as much or moreso than anyone/thing else and is a valuable and extraordinary, beautiful gift to all ♥️

Thank you, Fiona! It occurred to me while you were talking that I have literally NEVER heard of anyone dwelling on positive things. People only use the phrase "dwell on" when they're talking about unpleasant memories of the past or anxiety-provoking thoughts about the future. I say we all make a pact to start "dwelling on" happy things. After all, another definition of "dwell" is quite literally to live somewhere, so if we all have to live somewhere, it may as well be somewhere pleasant. When I think of all the misery that I have inflicted on myself just by ruminating on unhappy thoughts, I realize it was time better spent trying to cheer myself up.

In 2017 I took a vacation with my then-fiancee to New Orleans. Something I never thought I'd be able to afford or plan. Normally I don't have much money. But I took us to this place neither of us had ever been, and for a few days all of the pain and stress and hopelessness just went on pause for the two of us. I remember one night running across the street to a store for something, It was just me in an elevator. And I forced myself to stop and really just enjoy the feeling. Because I knew I had no control of how long this good would last, and bracing for the end would spoil it. its 2022, we didn't get married, the money's all gone, things have gotten bad, everything is lonely and scary right now. But I love looking back on that memory. And it keeps me hungry for the next one.

This is great. I'll have to try to start doing this. Another one that's helped me is an online community where every Sunday people share "Little Victories". It can be anything. It could be anything that you did that week: cooking a good meal, writing a song, organizing your closet, setting a boundary. Some weeks it's just that you got out of bed. Other times its that you recognized that you're sick and need to take a day off. Sometimes people struggle to think of something the first few times, but having that weekly reminder means you keep it in the back of your head and look for things throughout the week. I feel like it's helped me change my mindset to looking for recognizing my little victories day to day.

Well Fiona, your music makes me feel good and so does a lot of other music. So, oddly I’ve just bought a new pair of speakers to help me dwell better on the world of positive music or music that in some way invites me me to feel good. Life is full of invitations to the positive…..as you so very rightly point out we need to practice hearing those invites.

I'd like to give you hug if I ever see you again. I've met you before in Venice when I used to live there. I was usually drunk, but you were nice and struck up a conversation about Bill Withers at the little Mexican place on Windward Circle.
