I use simple flower and leaf canes to create this fun interwoven pattern from Polymer Clay. It is easier than it looks, and I take you step by step through the process to both create the cane, and then these resin topped pendants. So, sit back and relax as you see how to create some of your own.

Fiona, this cane is absolutely gorgeous! You took 4 “easy” canes and worked your magic again ❤️. It’s amazing to see how your imagination works; your placement and manipulation of the canes creates such a beautiful pattern. I love the final patterns and all the different colour combinations!!! Thank you for sharing your incredible gift with us. ❤️🤗

This is rather embarrassing to admit, but your voice is so lovely and soft with no sudden loud noises that your older videos are excellent as white noise to get to sleep. Problem is, when you post a new video that I really want to see, it's sometimes difficult to stay awake! 😳🙀 Thankfully, I've had no turkey today, so no tryptophan hangover for me, and I easily stayed awake! 😁 I'm looking forward to using this pattern in Christmas colors. Wish me luck!

Hi Fiona, thank you for another inspiring tutorial. These are truly beautiful and I will enjoy trying to make this cane. I have a challenge for you. I love Mackenzie-Child’s designs and would love to try and make polymer clay items inspired by her style. Unfortunately I am not skilled enough to do it. Can you consider doing a tutorial or two of canes inspired by her style/designs? Thank you. I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and that your New Year is bless, joyful and healthy!

Beautiful! Thankyou so much Fiona, this video is so inspirational. I've been in love with kaleidoscopes my whole life and creating them in clay, for me is wonderful. I love to play with light and shade so i'm always looking for ideas for elements (I squish a lot of petal, leaf and feather canes because I dont have to think too much about making them) I've watched a few of your videos where you use this cutting through technique and it's something i've yet to try, but seeing the way your elements were split into more abstract designs.....it has really inspired me to see what i can do with it. It gives this dynamic depth that i am right now going off to explore more. Thankyou again Fiona, you always inspire me off on a tangent haha! ❤

Beautiful! How do you know that the results of your manipulations will reflect your intent (William Morris)? I would like to learn how to do that...to take an image and translate it like that. How do you know when to bend and twist a component as you do?
@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Diane, I wasn't going for a william morris feel when I started, simply twisting leaf and petal canes as I was experimenting, it was only when that one kaleidoscoped that was what it reminded me of ;)

Fiona, can you tell me if you modify your fimo clay as in adding clay softener? I can never find fimo soft clay at my craft stores that are soft.. they are always super hard and I find I have to add a little softener to it to even mix the colors properly. I’ve been trying to use sculpey premo because it tends to be about the right hardness but not to soft to make canes. But as always it’s practice makes perfect. This tutorial I took and made your clay bowl tutorial. Mine wasn’t as perfect as yours but I was happy with it
@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals Жыл бұрын
Hi Cassandra, no I don't add anything into my FIMO soft. I have worked with it for many years, and sometimes the packets have hard clay - sometimes softer - particularly after the pandemic when supplies ran short for a while and then a whole shipment of new clays were released. It can be very crumbly when older - which is why I did my 'How to condition Polymer Clay Quickly' video, as I thought other people may be interested to see how I dealt with it. Kato have a very good clay softener which came out last year, and can be mixed with other clays. It comes in a big bar, and you only need a very little. It is the only 'softener' I tried, as I was sent a sample to see what I thought. I know most of the other brands also have softeners which can help. But to be honest, I never need to do anything than the techniques I use in my conditioning video. It is always best to find which clays are good for you that you can purchase nearby and know will be reliable, so Premo is a great choice, and I often cane with it. I am very glad you liked the bowl tutorial, and were happy with your bowl. I hope the above helps a bit. 🙃🙂

The pasta machine I use is an Atlas machine, at home I use the 180 (a wider machine) and when travelling or on workshops, I use the 150. I have always used the Atlas machines and I find them very good for Polymer Clay. However, there are other very good makes, such as the Imperia machines, and of course those made specifically for use with Polymer Clay. Ginger Davis Allman, from The Blue Bottle Tree has a number of articles on Pasta Machines - thebluebottletree.com/?s=pasta+machines which may prove helpful in choosing a machine. Here is a link to an Atlas machine, (for reference only, as obviously there are many other places both online, and in stores where they can be found), and it is worth searching around till you can find a good deal on one. I hope that is of some help. www.amazon.com/Marcato-8320-Machine-Cutter-Instructions/dp/B0009U5OSO/ref=sr_1_3?crid=BPH5K7P26RQT&keywords=atlas+pasta+machine&qid=1556786279&s=gateway&sprefix=atlas+pasta+machine%2Caps%2C211&sr=8-3 I hope that helps 🙂
