Quite surprised to see you guys get dispatched to a car lock-in. Especially if no animal or child is trapped. Normally over in U.K., you just send for a locksmith. Fire wouldn’t even think about turning out. Hell I once had a 600 LTR diesel spill right into a nature reserve and couldn’t even get them to turn out with spill kit. Seems like you guys turn out to everything to assist the community. Nice to see, keep up the great work.

My neighborhood fire department (Pecan Grove Plantation, TX) came out when I locked my keys in the car. Just called the non-emergency number, they pulled up to my house less than 10min after the phone call.

So I worked for Portland Fire for about 2 years They will dispatch either fire or police depending who's less busy. They do it to basically maximize the budget from tax payers.
@mcduck52 жыл бұрын
@@Blackwolffe097 Plus, Sitting around is bloody boring, as long as they are not too far from home there is little to no difference in turn out time between sitting in the station and sitting at a local cafe.

It's possible that they do it to keep in practice, so they are good at it whne they DO have to rescue a child.

when i get in my fire department and take my captains exam im going to use everything captain Pickford uses and apply it when im captain cause truly is a inspiration to younger captains coming into the higher ranks of the firefighting service
@mikel9567 Жыл бұрын
As an FTO myself, I'm going to tell you that is a horrible thing to do. No one wants you to imitate them. He can be an inspiration and a mentor but that doesn't mean you should copy him. What I tell my trainees in EMS is you need to make the job your own. You need to be yourself. That doesn't mean that you can't use what you learn from others to help shape you, but in the end you need to be yourself. I'm sure Captain Pickford and any other mentor worth their salt would agree with that too. Make the role your own and become a mentor and role model for others to emulate, not to copy.

Do you always send a second apparatus to medical calls? If there is a crew of three on the ambulance, it seems like beeing enough for day-to-day calls. Here in Germany, fire resources are usually only send for forcing doors or lift assistance. Some larger cities are using them as first responders too, but its not standard.

In Australia, ambulances are not connected to the firefighters so would be super interesting to watch :) I live in Sydney and in the NSW Ambulance Service we have paramedics, extended care paramedics, intensive care paramedics and also doctors, in the helicopters there is one intensive care paramedic and one doctor. How does it work in the US?
