I wanted my character to marry Gaius on my first run but by this chapter, Chrom put a gun to my head and forced me to marry him. On the bright side, I got a ridiculously good Lucina.

Tecnically Chrom x Sumia was never supposed to happen. The reason it’s canon is because a few people on the Dev team didn’t want to deal with Robin having two forms since they didn’t want Chrom x M Robin. Plus while they were writing some of the support lines (After Marriage) it was way too adult for a Teen game (They could not come up with anything below that.) so they scrapped a lot of stuff. In the end, although most of the team liked the ship they had to scrap it which is why it’s semi-canon.

They’re canon to me. Robin and chrom are cute together, their shower moments are just hilariously cute. Robin as Lucina’s mother and Morgan as Lucina’s little brother just fits imo

Technically speaking, since alternate timelines and universes are canonical for FE, all pairings are canonical in one way or another.

The supports are just for comedy's sake. After all the main story is about them growing closer over the course of 3 wars and later, killing a God. Plenty of drama in the main story so I don't mind some goofiness sprinkled in here and there

This only happens under certain conditions. 1) Robin has to be Chrom's closest *available* love interest (you can either make sure Chrom never gets any hearts with other women or S rank the other women off to whatever partners you prefer them to have if they're available before this chapter) 2) They can't be S ranked yet. This works this way because Chrom has to be married before the next chapter, so he'll pick himself a wife based off a priority list (choosing a generic maiden if no one is available)

Chrom always gets married by the end of this chapter if he's not S ranked to someone. If there are no Shepherds available he marries a generic villager. Who he marries depends on available candidates, their current rank with him, and a list of priority if they're all even matched.

Chrom automatically marries someone at the end of this chapter, like you see here. To guarantee a choice the safest bet is to get all the other choices married off (Olivia may join in the chapter but you've basically got to waste six or seven turns having her dance for Chrom to get that to work, so if you're aiming for a Robin mance that shouldn't be an issue as long as Chrom and Robin have reached A support)
