yea he did a commentary on a dvd release where he was surprised it was left out. If I remember correctly, he never saw the film when it hit theaters and realized it as he was doing commentary on it. i guess it was edited out or was never included

Rotoscoping. Basically taking live action footage and drawing animations over it. Looks great huh? These days they have motion capture for cgi character movements. Similar, but yeah I'd take hand drawn with rotoscoping any day over mo-cap-cgi.

It is called Rotoscoping... It is a technique that captures exact figure movement from film images. It is more precise than motion capture or MOCAP of todays 3D images. Where the 3D can look more real old school Rotoscoping will have more precise movement and the eye will notice it.

As far as I know, that's pure speculation. It seems possible-- even likely-- but I don't think it was ever confirmed. I do remember though, that back in the early days of the internet, I found an article that referred to the character as "Darkwolf/ Father Tremayne."
