This is my 3rd in-depth fire plough tutorial updated for 2022 based upon all my learnings over last few years and hundreds of hours of practice.. and is showing what works best for me … hopefully this will help people on their fire plough journey… remember…practice, put in the practice 😀🔥
There are other variations of technique and other combinations that work (i’ve been successful with about 15 combos) but this video shows what I’ve found works best for me in the UK.
I’m passionate about the fire plough and passing on the knowledge I have gained.

This is a wonderful video. The fire plough is the hardest of all fire making methods for me. Well done!

For the fire plow, I used the "alnus incana" tree. It is important that the wood comes from the middle of the tree. In the center, the wood is softer than the one that is closer to the bark.

Great tutorial Ian. I liked the points about using a thicker branch & carving the blade from the same piece. If this doesn't inspire people to get out & give this technique a try I don't know what will. 😀👐💪💪👍👊

Thanks Rich - yeah I’ve found this to be most effective/reliable way with uk woods for me now - tho with fire plough I won’t be surprised if I learn something new for a 2023 edition (which contradicts some of this 🤣) 😀
