Bitterblue is the best out of all of them; it has a good storyline in discovering Graces (which you said you wanted to have more), and the plot twist is kind of... insane. Well, for me. I cried. But yeah, I still think you should give it a try.
@nat20025 жыл бұрын
Oh completely agree, the books definitely improve as they go on and end on the best. Also I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that bitterblue gets better on rereading it (to me anyway, I got more out of it each time I did)
@RedReaper19976 жыл бұрын
chronologically, it's Fire then Graceling then Bitterblue. it would be helpful to read Graceling before Bitterblue to introduce you to some key characters and it's sometimes mentioned in Bitterblue what happened in Graceling. but by way of quality, it's Bitterblue, Fire, then Graceling. the author admits she made a lot of mistakes with Graceling and tried to fix them over the next two books.

When I read Fire way back when, I always got the sense that Archer and Fire's relationship was less of a relationship and more of a friends with benefits kind of deal. Archer was in love with Fire, but she mostly only viewed him as a very close friend.

If you've never read it, I recommend Snowcrash by Neal Stephenson. It's basically like if you mashed together Ready Player One and The Matrix but did it better and before people even had the though of VR in their brains. It's really an interesting read and Neal Stephenson actually invented some of the IT lingo people use today!

Fantasy isn't usually my cup of tea, so I'll give this one a miss. Loved your review though-I never understand why girls would want a guy like Archer, even in real life! There's protective and there's manipulative, and Archer sounds like the latter. No thanks. BTW are you planning a review for A Pleasure and a Calling? I'm thinking about buying it but I want to know if you thought it was good before I do...
@75sol217 жыл бұрын
Zoha Baig If you want to get into fantasy, you should start with the mortal instruments. They are great urban fantasy books and got fantasy to be my favorite genre.

The thing about the third book: It feels like the whole series built up to (sort of clumsily) the reveal of King Leck. The first book talks about his fall, the second about his rise, and the third is about all the stuff in between. While this series is in no way one of my favorites, after reading the third book, I ALWAYS think of King Leck when I think about the most evil villains in fiction. Plus it was interesting to see how people (and the entire kingdom) struggled with the aftereffects of being controlled by such an evil presence.
@Naahi957 жыл бұрын
remixgal1 I know! He was a great villain. I really hated when he was killed so easily in Graceling. But the 3rd book was worth reading in my opinion.
@minnowlark94616 жыл бұрын
Bitterblue answers all her questions and fills everything in where she thought it was lacking (mostly) but I personally found it to be the weakest book. The series would be great if it was compiled into one massive book in 3 parts. It's still a favourite of mine tho.

I think it would be interesting to have flaws in mind reading power such as: you can NOT closed your mind off easily/read minds whether you like it or not, having a relationship problem (knowing you can read their dirty secrets or unknowingly influence their thoughts), having other people react _badly_ of her power (easy conflict), the struggle and stress of having that power, etc. If the author explored the world building more thoroughly, it could be far more thoughtful book. But in any case, I would read Graceling series over House of Night any goddamn day.

HELLO LILLY, HAVE YOU REAS ANYTHING BY EOIN COLFER? The Artemis Fowl series is an amazing, hilarious fantasy books! They are about a boy, who in the first book is 12 years old, who with his butler, Butler, kidnaps a fairy who's also a leprechaun, but that's just a job :3 (It doesn't make sense before you read it, it's genius) Eoin Colfer's humour is amazing, the characters are all really interesting and the worlds he created are... wow, read! Has anyone else read the books? Please like and comment, I feel like I'm the only one who has read them :(

Fire's power and the ability for people to close their minds off reminds me of Rhysand's power through the court of thorns and roses books and how people could learn to shut their thoughts out from him or anyone else with that power...

Idk how you feel about book recommendations, but some YA/urban fantasy books I picked up recently and enjoyed are: The Coldest Girl in Coldtown (a genuine and believable teen lead who's pretty badass) and In Other Lands (an amazing parody of the traveling-to-a-fantasy-world books, with lead characters who have an honestly touching friendship w each other)
