@chuckegraham Volunteer departments,it's used to alert volunteers. Some career departments that have sirens,use them for Public alert.

I guess old timey.The outdoor siren is old but the indoor station alert is currently produced.

The "Tornado Sirens" are commonly used for volunteer departments as a means to notify the vollies of of a call. Normally they utilize one tone to notify firefighters and another to notify of bad weather or other emergencies.

I love that in-house.

@pcfd20 I have no idea on the audio.But the visual is Federal Sign & Signal

Seconded, Also, the Siren is winding up and down, which (in my area) usually signals volunteer firefighters or firefighters to call (on a military base) If it were a Weather Emergency or an Air Raid (LOL. Like they test those anymore) The Siren would stay on for a few minutes and Not Wind down. For an air raid, the Siren would "Whoop" Which is a very freaky sound to hear in the middle of the night.

we have a house siren at one of my stations. i live about 5 miles away and i can still hear it
@WalterLittle196315 жыл бұрын
That's the funny thing. Last March when the tornado blew through downtown, we were as snug as a bug in a rug. We heard the rain hitting our windows and our power flickered. . .but our complex sustained no real damage other than some limbs down in the parking lot.

At this building the Siren is at the rear center of the building,three stories up,pedestal mouted on the roof.

@firemanupton I believe that sound above the station is the station siren going off to alert other volunteers to come to the station for there is a call :).

No there is no pre-alert.The dispatch center was talking to the paramedics about a wreck and its location.That's what prompted me.
@fmartinjr15 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure.I heard them used at other stations around here.I do know that the horn is an electric programed sound.I never could find out even for myself because of guards at the fie station.

I have a 24/7 Monitoring WX Radio, and it only alerts me to my county, It goes off 2-3 minutes before the sirens go of.. giving me a bit of extra time to get into/gather emergency gear and seek shelter. I also have another radio that I turn on whenever I'm activated for SAR, that alerts me to any emergency broadcasts for my area (surrounding counties included) :)

No,that siren is way underpowered.I have an audio clip w/still shots of the sth10 sounding and there is a considerable difference. And believe it or not,NO exhaust system for the rigs in the bays.But there is a big flush wall mounted exhaust fan,BUT,it has to be turned on manually.I brought it up in a meeting and I was told that sensors on the back walls of the engine room will detect and then switch the fan on.Building has been here since summer 2005 and every time I see the fan running is

@firepipernickb Nah,just like any American business or corporation,the leaders need and have to have power and control to feel that their postion is worth anything.
@fmartinjr16 жыл бұрын
because I turned it on MANUALLY.The building can have a vehicle thermal balance visible and the fan will not activate automatically.But no,lets not fix that,lets go to the beach for convention on the company's money.So thats two things that are messed up and have been for over three years and continues.

@fmartinjr Thank you. I meant why not record your entire call? Nice to hear your siren. But why, when we have Minitors and pagers and cell phone paging? What kind? (I own a Federal Signal 2t22A now used as a tornado siren.)

@Zugvogel1 When I was 6 years old there were fire sirens bordered all around my U.S. city and when it was a large box alarm there were 4 to 6 sirens blasting at once!That was very exciting.And after the outdoor sirens atopped the appliance sirens and horns were next to sound.

why is there a tornado siren going off. is that like a volenteer fire department?
@fmartinjr14 жыл бұрын
@Zugvogel1 Mine too. And I've been listening to it for over 30 years.Especially on quiet nights with low clouds and high humidity.
@WalterLittle196315 жыл бұрын
I've been known to sleep with my scanner (which has the automatic storm activation) and, as you say, it usually activates several minutes before the sirens. I think, given the combination of the two, my wife and I have a pretty good heads up in severe weather which is good since we live in a second-floor apartment.

The siren blowing in the background from outside reminds of my old home town fire siren. Those were the days. :-/

The outdoor siren blasting away is the hype up of getting out and on the road. Love rolling when the thing is still running it's fire cycle.

We have that tone (up and down siren) in my area for tornado warnings. It nevers fails to wake me up in the middle of the night. . .I don't even bother with turning the weather radio on. . .I instinctively get up and start looking out the window. :)

you are correct, it is a warning tone for the volly's and to warn the town itself of a fd response.

Just a quick question. What type of alarm is that going off. The one we have it are stations just sounds like a freakin yelp tone. But I like the way yours sounds.

Good urgency to the tones, the air raid sirens remind of Second World War London!
