We design, layup, and program our avionics system in-house. We don't rely on third-party systems for telemetry, however we do include some COTS products for redundancy.

By the look of the aerials, the Fireball is communicating in the 2 GHz region. Since that is the same portion of spectrum used by Wi-Fi and a long list of commercial applications, the components (in special way, the GaAs transistors used in the front-end) are cheaply made and suffer from a large variability of the operating parameters. Moreover, the SDR design of the front-end suffers from a limited frequency image rejection, which isn't good for communicating with a travelling rocket. It would be better if you change to a two or three stages superheterodine design for your radios. This design is definetively more expensive, but over all it requires the skills of some good RF design engineers. This is the only way you can step up your acts. In the end, the rocket launch is wasted if you can't recover all the telemetry data in full. Best wishes - you're doing a great job. Greetings, Anthony
