This is how the Fireball Roberts crash was broadcast from NBC's cameras located on the frontstretch. This is the only piece of media that has survived from this race telecast. No announcer audio available.

That was the beginning of what might have been the most horrific week in American motorsports history. Just six days after that horrific crash, Dave MacDonald, who was mentored some by Fireball, and Eddie Sachs were killed in a fiery crash at the end of the second lap of that year's Indianapolis 500, and Ronnie Duman was badly burned in that incident. Later on in that race, the on board fuel tank on Parnelli Jones' car exploded after it's first scheduled pit stop, burning Parnelli.

Some 26 years prior to this footage a film named The Wizard of Oz" was released. Two years after this, "Batman" would be televised on full color. Meanwhile, we get this race coverage brought to us by Vaudeville.
