After a good scrub in hot water and dish soap i use MINERAL OIL FROM THE PHARMACY EXTRA THICK, the type people drink to soften there stool. Cheap to purchase, after i dry the fire box, i rub it into hinges and the face of the box, let it sit for a few hours and wipe down with a dry cloth. Love that shine and really brings out that PATINA, give it a whirl. Plus you can use it on your bushcraft blades as well. Cheers!

I own the titanium Buschbox LF and will wash it down with warm water and a copper pad from time to time when I am cleaning the soot from my cook ware. But I never use any oil, certainly not WD-40, on the bushbox. This is in part due to the material, titanium doesn't rust, but mostly because I don't want to breathe any of the fumes when cleaning or using the stove. Where I live, you don't have much choice, but to use coniferous wood, not much else grows here. It is not as bad as you make it out to be, or maybe it's the habit of wrapping the stove in rags after use, that keeps the dirtmof my pack. Pine raisin is more a bother on my knives and saws, but is easy to remove with a bit of oil. I use cheap sunflower or canola oil, never mineral oils, for that. Due to the local climate, always wet & damp, I ownly use stainless tools, that alos cuts down on the maintenance time. My unease with mineral oils and WD-40 might be overly cautious, I'm definitely not an expert, so everyone do as you see fit, but please share your experiences!

Great stove so versatile... I use ballistol food grade natural oil to maintain mine as alternative tl wd40... It was used by the Germans in ww2 to maintain guns and kit

Thanks for making this video. I clean my firebox the same way, but I have never lubed the hinges. I wipe the whole thing down with vegetable oil but it gets sticks so I'm going to quit doing that. Definably going to hit the hinges with wd-40

Many thanks for making this video Justin. Love my Firebox stove so it was good to see what you do to maintain it. I’ve found that the front side does warp out a tiny bit after use which I’ve noticed stops the fold-down fire grate to miss the slots it’s meant to rest in. With some gently flexing the front side can be coaxed back in a couple of millimetres. Have you found this at all? Cheers - Ben

I throw my ti firebox in the dishwasher when I get home. When it’s dry I spray it down with a light coat of cooking spray.

Thank you for this great video JJ. You seem to be very knowledgeable on the firebox, therefore I have a question for you. I am contemplating on purchasing, but not for the purpose of using it as cooking primarily. I am more interested in using it as a portable fire pit for extended burn times. For between 5 and 8 hours at a time, 3 or 4 times a week. In previous videos you shared that you use yours alot. Would this firebox be able to handle extended burns? Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Do I need to do this after each use?the bottom of the stove is slightly bent, is that normal?

I would not use WD40 om anything I was cooking food with.
