Another reason this show is so fondly remembered is because in its short time there were more than enough callbacks to previous episodes. Badger, Niska, YoSaffBrig (or pick one of hernames LOL) return, giving the show a lived in continuity. It does not feel like it aimlessly meanders as much trying to find its place as other shows do.

You're on point. Firefly is easy to watch, and still it's not a cheap, stupid, simple show. It's just the perfect combination of well written, entertaining storytelling that still has lot's of depth, suspense, sad and serious moments. It's just don't need to accomplish that with forced twists and turns to "outsmart" the audience for those WTF moments, and by throwing in tones of dystopia to pretend to be oh so relevant and serious.

Have you seen the show "The Expanse"? If you love sci-fi, The Expanse is an absolute must. What would life be like if humans lived on Mars, and worked out in the asteroid belt. As realistic as possible. No phasers. No Force Fields. No artificial gravity: there is only gravity on a ship when the engines are on. Ships are like building, always flying up at 1/3G. Halfway to destination, flip 180 degrees, and start slowing down at 1/3G. The show will have you on the edge of your seat in one moment, and crying in the next.

When you finish this, there's another show that was canceled way too early. It only got 2 seasons, but had the potential to be so much bigger. Highly underrated and very few reaction channels have watched it. Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Pay attention to the tv screens at the beginning of each episode for clues. If you like Elijah Wood from Lord of the Rings, I think you'll like this. "Everything is connected."

It's not about laughing at anyone... well... maybe jump scares... but not when people get emotional. For me it's about seeing people express some of the same emotions I felt or expressed myself. It gives us all a human connection with each other.

At the end you were talking about how Firefly is so easy to watch but never boring. This is a well written/directed show with a GREAT CAST. I found this in the mid 2000s and watched the entire season Fri night from like 9pm till sometime later Sat morning I finished and slept. Watched Serenity after I woke up late Sat afternoon. Seems such a waste to watch it so quickly but I was hooked and had no idea it was one of the 2 or 3 best shows I would ever see in this lifetime. (yea, we understand you completely)

I've seen a few other people react to this show to see any sort of reaction (emotional or otherwise). While watching your reactions I enjoy hearing you laugh. Your laughter is pleasant, but also you get the humor of the show. In a greedy way, I enjoy it when I have a shared sense of humor with someone else.

Firefly is such a treasure, I've watched it so often, I about know every minute of every episode, but it never gets boring. To me it's due to the wonderful writing of Whedon and the cast that has this unique chemistry that I've enjoyed from hardly any series ever. Thank you for your great reaction. What you said about it being an easy watch even though it's intense at times is very much on point. Blending humor and drama, it's really easy to get the mix wrong, but Joss Whedon nails it. Usually. At least and especially in Firefly.

Firefly managed to have writing that was charming. We don't often get charmed by a show anymore. Also for a nice change of pace you might want to watch the original Star Trek series. from the 60s. That show also had charm.

Another great comedy/drama series with Christina Hendricks (Yolanda/Saffron/Bridgette) is Good Girls. It ran for one season. I’m hoping that, unlike Firefly, it has a season two. And like Firefly, it can go from wickedly funny to deadly serious like the flip of a switch.

A couple of things, after hearing you talk about intensity. Just a heads up. Serenity is good. It answers some big questions. Same characters, same ship, same story, same actors but different pacing and tone. Part of that has to do with having to quickly introduce characters to a new audience who hadn’t seen the series. But it is kind of jarring to people who already know the characters because, well, they’re more intense; their situation more dire. I think it helps to be prepared for that. Secondly, if you like Nathan Fillion, the next series he did is good fun. Castle. His character, Rick Castle, is a mystery writer who ends up working with NYPD. He has a teen daughter and his rather eccentric (actress) mother lives with them. Both beautiful redheads! Anyway, it’s really fun, especially the first few seasons. Gets a little more intense in the last couple of seasons. There are several Firefly references sprinkled in for those loyal Browncoats watching, including a fabulous Halloween costume. 😉

_"You're a liar, Malcolm Reynolds!"_ I'll never get why this particular line would be such a revelation. The moment she drew a gun on Mal it was obvious that she knew him. 🤨 Her attempt to "seduce" Mal shortly afterwards was just cringy, and not how I'd assume that someone with Academy training would act. In spite of these scenes, and Christina Hendrick's not-too-convincing hand-to-hand fighting skills, I consider this episode one of the top tier ones! As for YoSaffBridge, she could have killed Mal - or at least try to - instead of stranding him, so the fact that she didn't might suggest that she's not _completely_ depraved. Thanks for another great reaction to this one-of-a-kind show!

The point of Firefly are the characters! The villains are better than heroes on most series! It is just fun to see the crew just having a dinner together and enjoy watching that! Very few series manages to do it in that way! Definitely look the Firefly comics… you are gonna miss the series… the comics help… a little bit. And open up things that will remain unseen in the TV series.

Two plot holes. 1. "So, you two have met." "I nevertheless you his last name." Well, as mentioned, they have met. 2. After too many watches, I just realized this one. YoSaffBridge is left in the hint until the "authorities dig [her] out." She would rat them out in a second.

If Watchmen (or anything) is too intense for you, there’s nothing wrong with giving it a pass. I totally understand, there are things I won’t watch because of how I know it’d affect me. The most recent one is the movie Whiplash, which by all accounts is a very good movie, but the few snippets I’ve seen tell me I’ll be bothered by the content enough to negate any enjoyment from watching it. Your well-being should override any perceived obligation to watch anything in particular.

5:41 when Wash yells, you can see Jewel Staite (Kaylee) cracking up for real. 6:27 When Jayne says “I wouldn’t know,” River responds by calling him a liar, but disguising it as if she’s talking about YoSaffBridge. She kinda tips her hand by saying “Jayne’s a girl’s name,” but he doesn’t catch on. And I think Simon (by this time) already knows Jayne tried to sell them out, I think River already told him.

@TerryAllenSwartos
@TerryAllenSwartos 3 ай бұрын
@@sirmoonslosthismind Every time I see this episode and she says that Jayne’s “afraid we’ll know,” Simon doesn’t look surprised at all, he looks contemplative. Maybe even thinking, “where do we go from here, what do I do now?” I think he’d been sitting on the knowledge, and after this he decided to bring it out in the open and try to reach a detente (which he did in the infirmary later on). I think the only thing he’s surprised about is that Jayne is afraid they’ll know, that he’s ashamed. I could be wrong, it’s just the impression I get from that exchange between River and Simon.

@@TerryAllenSwartos i know people mostly think of simon as bumbling and incompetent, but being careful about the emotions he shows to patients would be within his skillset. in that scene, he doesn't strike me as someone who already knows everything, but rather as someone who is actively choosing to keep his response to himself.

People, maybe even me, will reccomend "Band of Brothers" . Maybe, MAYBE, with a brainless comedy interspersed. (You know 1 episode of "police Squad" then 1 episode of "Band of Brothers") BTW, I am sorry as a Firefly fan that the end is near. If the sadness that there is only 3 or four episodes left hasn't hit yet, it will. But as it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved... Yes, I'm sorry .... that is cold comfort but it is all I got. BTW, you can buy a Browncoat now and decide you are a Browncoat. And if they had three seasons it might have gotten worse, like season 3 of the Mandalorian.
