Nidus 3D isn't afraid to show us the details of what wen't well and what didn't on their Cobod Bod 2.5 construction printing system! Huge shoutout to CEO Ian and his team for their outstanding transparency and dedication to exploring the unknown world of 3D printed construction and automation solutions on the job site. In this video we get to hear from the Nidus 3D founder what challenges and efficiencies they discovered working with their system in Ontario Canada. This 2 story building featuring a workshop in the bottom floor and an in-law sweet on the second floor was permitted according to CSA standards (screw AC 509). For their next project they will be 3D printing a basement right in the middle of town!

A two story print, more proof that we are limited only by our imaginations. Thanks to all involved in this production. Eye opening, to put it mildly. One step closer to printing the Empire State Building, one floor at a time. I just love the innovation you are documenting in this dynamic field Jarett Gross. Thanks for this important information you are sharing. Blessings back to you and your family and crew.

These guys using the spatula are way ahead of the game. Those smooth layer lines are key. If the layer lines look smooth enough, it just looks similar to brick, which is acceptable as an exterior veneer.

Yeah they could also just paint it or maybe add in colouring(?) - would look similar to stucco.

First off, let me say I LOVE WHAT YOU ARE DOING HERE. This is incredible. So neat to see this progress in 3D concrete printing. I am an engineer (mechanical by education, electrical by experience) who's been watching this field grow for years, and I have so many questions and ideas about what is happening and now and where it is going. 2:50 You showed the print-in-place, grouted, reinforced lateral beam. That is profound. My biggest question about all of the 3D printing space has to do with the reinforcement: why can't we go to smaller, mixed-in rebar, something like the helical "microrebar"? 6:30 Why can't the code be met by creating a void of the same dimensions as the Sonotube? That seems like the engineer's liability, not the authorities' having jurisdiction discretion. 8:00 You say you are going to add chemical additives and adjust the moisture content to improve the wall texture/resolution. Do you think the screed is optimally long enough or has a surface smoothness? Is there a way to use a longer screed and a flow of water between the surface and the screed (a small drip using something like a refrigerator water tube)? This would simulate a concrete finisher's tactics. Thank you for this great video, along with your others. This is so cool!

Micro rebar is more likely to clog the hose Home inspectors work for the municipality so while an engineer could structurally approve something the town may not grant a certificate of occupancy I don’t know but I’ve noticed in this project they actually used a smaller screed than in the past.

I think the usual screed works with gravity/higher viscosity - two things they might not want - but if it could be really smooth that could be cool. Good thinking on the sonotube - unless the tube itself is structural this requirement doesn't make much sense haha

You're a brave man for trying to sell that in Canada. I honestly can't imagine that competing with ICF. And ICF seems to me to be way more versatile. And probably better insulated. And stronger. I wonder how the costs compare.

I don’t know why you’re assuming it was economical the cost wasn’t explained, generally speaking the material, for these homes is quite expensive, which can be a significant factor in the cost.

The future and best idea of 3d printing a house is to be able to do it cheaper.... This doesn't look cheap and when you produce something off site that you have to have a crane to lift in place then i wonder what the final cost is compared to conventional methods.
