Actually, this is one of the most useful selections of common words possible. Good reading, done twice. Once with semi English phonetics, once using Ukrainian spelling. Followed by a tone, this probably signals the brain to lodge it into brain memory. Nothing in excess, well pronounced. Thank you.

I believe that learning words in another language that are nearly identical to the same words in your native language is a waste of time, as these are obviously easy to learn. Therefore moma, school, borshch, hobby, web design, sport, literature, football, basketball, tennis, banjo, computer, businessman, journalist, engineer, manager, designer, director, secretary, pensioner, mayonnaise, desert, and lemon should be removed.

@@terjeoseberg990 not really, these words still need to be learnt. How are you supposed to find out that they are nearly identical / similar words if it's just a waste of time learning them and they shouldn't be shown?

Besides pronouncing г as g, this was EXTREMELY helpful. I closed my eyes, listened to the english and then tried to say the Ukrainian word before it was said in the video. I'm past this in duo, but it made me realize that I need to go back and work on professions and the words that sound close to english, for some reason 😂 Thanks!

Hour «година» and to play «грати» should be pronounced with a soft h. Many other words with the letter «г» are pronounced incorrectly with a g sound. This is insulting.

So the mum (mate - мати) is a mathematician and she goes to the hospital because her daughter (donka - донька), who happens to be a donkey, doesn't feel well. The father (tato - тато) is one of the most tactful people you'll ever meet and he helps the daughter to stay calm. The doctor gives her some honey (med - мед) and she reacts well to the medication. Finally they get home (djim - дім) which is a very large gym with all sort of equipment. Very pretty, though the garden (sat - сад) is quite a sad place, full of dirt, dead plants and random trash. The mother wants to relax and drink some juice (sik - сік) but she finds out the juice is sick. It turned out all green and warm, the thermometer shows a high temperature. What a pity. Her son (sen - син) is a known sensei, one of the best despite the young age. When he is not teaching martial arts, he likes to assemble stuff. One day he got a delivery, and it was a kit. He assembled it very skillfully and here it goes, a lively cat (kit - кіт) runs through the house! His sister makes a donkey sound of disappointment. The little brother (brat - брат) is such a spoiled kid. Buys a bunch of stuff and then let others deal with it.

@@kazimierzgaska5304 you are right about that haha memory techniques can be time consuming. I think it´s worth it for some subjects (if you do it right, things stick to your mind for a LONG time). But for language learning simply reading, watching shows, chatting with people etc. all that is better than learning words out of context. But it´s the same principle: we remember things that provoke emotions in us... so nothing better than getting lost in a good story for example :)

For people saying that he's pronouncing г incorrectly, many people in Ukraine speak Russian as their first language, it really depends on where you live. It's likely just a habit or accent that he picked up depending on where he lives. Think of how many accents there are in England -- and how different they all are. Excellent video, very helpful ❤

The г is a “h” sound. Pavlo is pronouncing it like the Russian “g” which is Russification of the Ukrainian language. In the Apple Ukrainian keyboard the “g” letter is omitted. 😢 Also, why is the true Ukrainian T now written as T and not the original m ?

I've noticed that too, on Duolingo, that different people pronounce the words differently. Now I'm doing Mango languages because Duolingo only goes to level 35, and there is no more. It's too bad, because I don't feel like I know enough to be even close to fluent.

why does he always pronounce г as ґ? I had learned a word like грати would start with an “h” sound, not a “g” sound. is this more common with native Ukrainian speakers?

You are correct. Pavlo is pronouncing it incorrectly. The г is an “h” sound as in hair. This speaker is following a Russificated pattern which is NOT Ukrainian. Several of the sites in general have similar errors.
