This is actually the piece I played for my audition to get into UBC seven years ago. A lot has changed since then but this is still one of my all time favourite pieces of classical music ❤

You have no idea how excited I got when I saw that you'd posted a cover of this. I used to have awful insomnia, so I'd listen to this piece in the middle of the night. It's such a beautiful piece, and your cover of it is absolutely beautiful.

@@SamanthaBallard Debussy was a genius, and all of his music seems to have a similar feel to it - obviously they're different pieces, but he had his own sort of style of composing.

Hi! I'd love to learn the harp, what should I do if I can't find a music teacher near me who teaches it? Any tips to start?

See if there's someone who teaches by Skype that you could visit once in a while and do most of the lessons over skype. And once you start, you've got to commit to practicing! At least four times a week.

you should start with organizing yourself a harp then nothings stands between you and the harp except it does then you should move it away BUT THEN NOTHING STANDS BETWEEN YOU AND THE HARP!

I agree that Clair de lune sounds better on piano. Even though both pieces feature lots and lots of arpeggios which should be perfect for the harp, the tempos of said arpeggios in Clair de lune vary so much that only the piano can capture their true essence. Outside of the arpeggios, Clair de lune uses many chords as opposed to the single notes found in Arabesque no. 1. If those chords are not interpreted well on the harp, then the entire piece just loses its soul. All in all, Arabesque no. 1 is one of the very few piano pieces that fits perfectly on the harp with minimal translation.

For me, it's not about the tempo or even really the chords. For me, it's all about sustain and legato that makes me prefer Claire de lune on piano.

@@SamanthaBallard That too. I use the sostenuto (middle pedal) in certain parts of this piece, and I don’t know how that would translate on the harp.
