Thank you for another informative video and giving us a bit of a heads up on what to expect for our first service. Picked up my Seal Premium on Wednesday and I have a silly smile constantly on my face, since! I've been getting nothing but praise from colleagues and friends (and a few hints of envy). I am astonished by the way it drives and behaves (the update was already done on the car). Coming from a fat SUV and as a first time EV owner, that instant torque is both exciting and scary. Makes you wonder how much faster the Performance could be! Personally, I get much more than I need from the Premium in SPORT mode. On the down side, the audio system feels a bit weak but I have to try all possible audio sources in order to make an informed decision. My experience as a first time EV owner has started in the best possible way and i hope it remains this way for the future.

Congrats on the new Seal! 🥳 I agree Sport mode in the Premium is also sufficient for most of my daily needs 😉 I also feel the audio system could be better despite the Dynaudio label (Danish premium brand). However after playing with the balance, it sounds a bit better 🎼🎧

Mycar's parent company is Continental tyres. You can also get your BYD vehicle serviced at an Eagers location listed on the BYD website. I take my Atto 3 to Mycar in SA. It's 10 minutes away, and my Seal performance when I take delivery in 2 to 3 weeks' time will go there too for servicing.

I live on the NSW VIC border, problem for those of us with BYD cars is the servicing, right now you have two choices both are 300k’s away, BYD if they want to continue to increase sales in regional areas they need to ensure that more service centres are opened within easier access preferably within 100k range.

I am constantly surprised at the amount of EV hate there is in the online community. So much vitriol and misinformation coming from predominately men who have never owned an EV. I think it's a mixture of fear of change, fear of missing out and just plain ignorance. I have stopped trying to talk sense to any of them. To a foolish post I now simply reply 'EV's are great". This sends them into a tailspin

That's the same thing in Denmark as far as I know, but I do have some concerns about having a lot of cars driving around without having their brakes checked, their undercarriage looked over etc. Is there some way for the owner to know if everything is ok, or is it more up to chance? 👍 Just wanted to ask, since I am looking to get answers from different places in the world, as the way the cars are being driven and used are very different from country to country. 👍

I feel like this is where BYD loses out. Tesla service intervals are spot on how EVs should be. The point of EVs is less moving parts hence less servicing required. BYD seems to be on par costs and interval wise to a ICE vehicle. Actually more than a Camry or Corolla hybrid which has more moving parts.
@LudicrousFeed
@LudicrousFeed 2 ай бұрын
I’m in 2 minds about this. On the one hand I agree with you in that there are less moving parts in the EV powertrain which require less maintenance … however there are always other parts that are common to all vehicles regardless of energy source eg suspension, wheels, tyres which probably should be checked out occasionally 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for showing this, checking all that stuff is fine for a FIRST SERVICE on a new car. I have my doubts about the so called servicing on electric cars. I believe this is legacy stuff and really all they should have to be doing is checking the mechanical things like brakes and suspension, wheel alignment etc, even most of this stuff nowdays is so good that unless you hit a kerb real hard nothing should need to be done and a wheel align only needed when new tyres are fitted. Things like brake pads should last well over 100k if not they are crap. If the battery is liquid cooled all that is needed is to LOOK at the bottle for gods sake, surely an owner can do that? With the tech, software should be able to detect over heating of the battery pack, or any of the components required for it to be working, also any electronic sensor etc should be detectable if it malfunctions. The tech for that is all there and has been for some time. If the so called authorised dealer has the ability to plug in a device (what is wrong with a laptop?) and see what each cell is doing in the battery pack, whether each cell voltage is within parameters, that all cells are balanced as they should be etc etc. But the trend now is to ensure that the owner knows nothing about the car that way the dealers can earn a living, but with the electric engined cars (yes engine or call it a motor if you like) there will be less and less needs doing at all so their jobs are going to have to change. I believe your mechanic's view on OTA software updates is laughable, so how long has Tesla been doing this? It is more like most of the other manufacturers are not ready for it and will want to charge a subscription fee to use it, which they are not doing yet until they get a decent foothold in the market, then all the free becomes subscription, ultimately the entire car will be subscription. Technology is driving many jobs away but at the same time is creating new and different ones. There is a huge opening for what used to be mechanical workshops changing oil and filters etc to turn themselves to repairing battery packs. Re-conditioning the electric motors, to keep these things going, at least until the manufacturers make them totally unserviceable. Which is next I suppose. So it seems that Tesla still has the market wrapped up. More expensive but wow what a difference there is with all this other stuff, the others still have a long way to go.
@LudicrousFeed
@LudicrousFeed 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment and yes I largely agree with a lot of your sentiments. A lot of the info can be accessed via a compatible OBD device and app on the phone so yes the future of servicing is likely in doubt … given we don’t regularly bring our other electrical devices for regular service! I’ll post my 12 month service down the track so stay tuned … 🙏

We have lots of Teslas on the road here in the United States older than 10 years. I’ve looked at the prices of these BYD’s, they are not really much cheaper. Why on earth does any BEV need a “service” after 3 months? That’s ridiculous. I first took my Tesla in for a general inspection (not a scheduled “service”) at 2 years, and then again at 4 years. And we don’t even bother with the Nissan LEAF “scheduled servicing” any more - we just get the annual rego inspection done, and that’s it.

OMG the service requirements are extremely frequent on your BYD in comparison to Tesla with my 2019 TM3. The first service was due at 200,000 kilometres or two years whichever came first. Second service was due at 400,000 kilometers or four years. With my wife's 2016 ioniq electric service requirements are every 15,000 kilometres or every year. This KZfaq video seems to confirm my suspicions that the legacy car manufacturers in my opinion are rip off artists with their service intervals. Regards Séamus from Dublin Ireland.

Would you service your own vehicle? Would you guarantee that servicing? And this is the question? I went to test drive a BYD Seal Premium yesterday after watching your video at the Blacktown store. Apart from the mediocre service from the sales agent, what bothered me the most was their lack of knowledge regarding the service side of things. I asked about what actually gets serviced but I wasn't given a clear answer on what exactly gets serviced. Instead, the agent mentioned the importance of brake checks and servicing the radiator, even though it's an EV. My concern is that I only drive about 6-9k km a year, so spending $300 annually just to check brakes and radiators, without considering other diagnostics, seems unjustified. Service costs should be lower for EVs, and charges for replacements should be based on actual needs rather than a flat fee. It feels like EV companies are trying too hard to profit from servicing, similar to combustion vehicles, where such extensive servicing may not be necessary.
