@Vancouver Carpenter. Thanks Ben for your practical advice in drywalling. You've given me the confidence to properly tape, mud, repair, and skimcoat walls. While it's a good thing I don't do it as a paying job, I have the satisfaction of doing the work myself and getting into a zen while doing it. Gives me a appreciation for the professionals who do this for a living , do a good job and what they go through. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

Old man doing home reno here. This is good demo. I'm picking up some helpful tips, like drink too much coffee B-) But really, watching you work gives me a bit more confidence in my own efforts. Question1 : do you ever use a corner tool to apply mud to both adjacent corners at once? (maybe its in a another vid). Q2: Is your big trowel cambered? Mine is manufactured with a distinct bow, and it and requires a certain amount of "just-right" pressure to cover joints, but feathering is no problem, if i've had decaf in the morning ;-) Thanks for your videos and sense of humour.

Mr. Vancouver Carpenter, are u renting or did u buy your home? I appreciate all your videos. I have about 5 holes that the handy man and electrician created. I fired the handy man bc he kept telling he couldn't come to finish the work. It was the electrical that still needed to be finshed up. Anyhoo, the electrician said he doesn't patch holes (even tho he created them) so I'm over here looking at your channel so I can get the courage to do it myself. U make look easy & almost therapeutic 😄 but tell me why i still can't get myself to do it. If you reply, you with ANYTHING or if i merely get any LIKES I swear I WILL GET IT DONE! And i might even record just so it goes down in history. I just need motivation and strength...MENTAL STRENGTH!!!

You may not even realize it but I learned a ton from this video and I don't know why. Phrases like "the most important thing is that you don't see any porosity in that mud" is invaluable information and you just kind of say it off the cuff without thinking about it I bet
@aaron743 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I've ever uttered the word "porosity" in my life. Ha ha ha

I started using a trowel and it’s so much easier than a knife I just need to master floating out an entire ceiling with a hawk and trowel, I’ll try what you showed in the video

I start on floor right to left, right handed, reason on floor is I have less to do when on a ladder, know exactly how much is left, safer too, the less you can do off ladders the better, I like the one side corners!

Hey Ben, I've been meaning to ask you for some time why you don't use a pool trowel for skimming and general work rather than a straight edge trowel? I get that it's easier to get into corners with the straight one but I would think it would get a softer transition on most everything else. Thanks man, I really appreciate your videos.
@writtensword1732 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you’ve ever done this, but can you show an extreme close-up of the second coat from like a darkened room with side lighting for an example of how it should look? Especially corners and butts. I have learned so much from your videos. Thanks!!!

Ben, Made me laugh… feathering the edge in French would be “amincir les bords” / “amincir le rebord” or “niveler le bord/rebord”. “Plume” is not applicable :). Just the French guy in me needing to correct I guess lol. I love that you try though, makes it fun.

if I remember my science classes, Poly is short for polymer chemistry or "Man Made". Some guy inter mingled a bunched a stuff together to get the required product. They do the same with food processing and you get "Sweeteners"
@aaron743 жыл бұрын
Poly means many. Polygamy means many marraiges. Polygon is a shape with many sides.

When taping and mudding a garage, is there a difference in material or protocol to offer a higher fire rating, or to adhere to fire rating for a garage?

Hello from Vancouver Island! Ben, I'm hoping you have some advice on how to skim coat a coved ceiling. We're currently renovating our 1949 built house and your videos have provided some great information for skim coating these textured walls. We've tried to look up if someone has skim coated textured coved ceilings before but can't find any videos. If you could do a video on it or even better, we could hire you to skim coat these coves we would be soooo grateful! Haha -Jeannette I can provide pictures if you're interested in seeing what we're dealing with. We've started...just not sure how it's going.
