Oh no, I was laughing because it was my first time doing this and seeing the results had me all jazzed up 😅 I love doing this, do it as much as I'm able too. Saved me probably $10K in lumber already!

Since chainsaws aren't manufactured for ripcut cuts this type of work isn't make damage to the chainsaw after some time ?

It can definitely cause major damage over time...if you aren't careful. Proper mx, keeping the chain clean/sharp, engine breaks, and having a powerful enough/properly tuned saw to begin with is all crucial. I've ripped thousands of linear feet and my saw shows no signs of slowing down.

@mrsurvival6733 Yeah that's obviously essential, but it taking the other added steps definitely help when using a chainsaw like in this fashion. It's like asking a rhino to run like a cheetah lol.

Unfortunately, no. It was my first time doing it and I'm a terrible mechanic, but I followed Tinman's videos below and the difference is huge. He doesn't show how to change the boot for the coil, which was kind of a pain to figure out on my own but not terrible. @@maxdragon15 Oh that's interesting...I honestly had a hard time starting mine at first, but then I stopped using that little button. I appreciate it though, used it a ton since this video and it's still running better than new.

Oh absolutely, it'll be rough cut of course but nothing a bit of finish milling can't handle. Actually just used some of this oak for furniture the other day now that it's dry enough.

Why is everyone who's using these using name brand chainsaws? Seems like for a job like this, there's no benefit in using a $400 saw when a $100 one can do just as well. Weight, comfort, and even durability just aren't that big of a deal when you're using a set up like that. You're just burning up an expensive saw. I have a $120 Chinese Echo clone and its a great saw.

Well I don't know about everyone, but I'm using this $450 saw with an extra $300+ in mods for several reasons. Mainly because I like it, but also when I bought it I never knew I'd be using it for this, just needed to drop a 22" wide tree and wanted the 24" bar this came with. After modding it like I did (which isn't always as easy to do with clones) it became a beast and after countless hours using it for this and felling it's showing no signs of being burnt up. However, if it's any consolation to you, I use a Husky clone that I ended up getting for free off Amazon when I do my edge milling 😉

Cool mom about to finally pull trigger on a mill. So is this one been good ? Im looking at running a 24 inch bar as well

Awesome! I absolutely love this mill and I'm sure you would too. I've used it a ton and never had an issue. I'm sure it's a bit more pricey than it's knockoffs, but Granberg doesn't play when it comes to durability.
