Great job Professor. My first class I had a purple belt working with me. He was going easy, and I thought the goal was to go hard. He submitted me about three times really fast, and then said, ”The harder you go, the harder I can go.”

Just body isn’t used to moving at least in that way. I had my first day last week and I didn’t get gasses at all. After class and some rolling I was super energized. Mind you I’m not exactly in shape either. I’m 250 at 5”11. I’m big dude, however my body already had some conditioning since I used to be in the military. Sure I was breathing hard but at no point did I need to stop. Just flipping from the different positions trying to force each other to tap out somehow, since we hadn’t learned any submissions yet. Just how to move into advantageous positions. Course we were going hardcore on each other trying to do whatever we can. So much fun. However with that said my biggest advice about not gassing out while rolling, BREATH! This was something drilled into me in the military. We will be exerting a lot of pressure and forget to breath. This I think would be very common in BJJ (mind you ive only been to one class and will have second one tomorrow so I’m no expert on this specifically)

It is normal to get chocked the first day? I wasn't rude. I went to learn. But all demonstrations were really rude. And the teacher told me to pass his guard. And obviously I couldn't. But I always ended with a choke o myself.

Hello Ryan, Thanks a lot for all your incredible content. I am interested in learning jiu jitsu, and was wondering if it is necessary for the instructor to be a black belt. There is a Gracie academy in my town of Phoenix, AZ, but I think the instructors are only certified by Rener and Royce Gracie. I would really appreciate any advice on this. Thank you again!

@@KamaJiuJitsu yes thank you I'll check them out. So far I've done fairly well I've been tapped 4 times escaped about the same and had people in a few positions where if i knew what to do more or my oponent wasnt 7 years in and knew how to fight my hands off i mightve gotten the submissions...just from instincts and watching videos. Thank you. I love the sport and game of mental and physical chess. I'm 5 10, 195 lbs. Very strong and do daily calisthenics and deadlifts, squats, and bench...that has seemed to be a good value when rolling, as well as my previous boxing, just knowing contact. Having numerous fights when i was you get also gives an instinct aspect that has helped. Looking forward to your videos and training
