First Day of Teaching Stories UK (ADVICE)

Your first day of Teaching can be tricky! In this video, we share our own first day of teaching stories as well as the stories of other teachers who have taken that journey in the past. We speak to other Teacher KZfaqrs about their first day experience and discuss how that first day can make a teacher feel. Please share your own first day of teaching stories in the comments in order to support more first year teachers and NQTs around the world. I’m sure it helps to hear the stories of other teachers before meeting your first class!

Thank you for contributing your story to the video! I think knowing that people travel to work differently is helpful in itself as this is often something we forget (it can make a difference to how you feel perhaps!) we enjoyed making this one a lot! 💕💕

Great suggestion - Time management is something that took me a long time to get right. I still mess up some days! It's crazy that a 1 hour lesson can sometimes zip by in 20 minutes and the other way round. We will definitely work on a video about this (and share what we have learnt so far) for you soon. I LOVED this! Such a GREAT idea. Hopefully it makes new teachers feel better that we have all been there and STILL have some of the same feelings on the first day of each new year that we did at the very first! I loved the commentary after each testimonial. You both had great insights! Thank you for including me in this wonderful collaborative effort. Happy Teaching! Love and hugs from Missouri, USA!

I still feel nervous every year. I think it's that anxiety of not knowing who your students will be, all of their personalities and the chemistry you will have with them all year long!

Could you do a video as a day of a life as a teacher type of thing/ realities of teaching? I am applying for my PGDE next year and have heard so many horror stories of teachers working from 6am-midnight and being overstressed. But I would love to see an honest break down of a day or a week in the life. thanks

Thanks so much! I am applying for 2019 as didn't have enough experience to apply for this year. I am from Scotland so I am hopeful Edinburgh Uni will want me haha! So glad I have found your channel, you have put a lot of my worries at rest!

Lol. That bull hung around all year. Always outside my classroom. It legit hung out all day long every day for the entire year. We were up in farmland so lots of animals were always about but the bull was my favorite. Why didn’t I name him?

Maybe we speak too fast! We will try to slow down. So you watch much British tv? Perhaps that might help you to understand the accent. Are you a teacher too? ☺️
