This is the first real demo of the DB48X project, a project to develop an HP48-like RPL-based calculator environment on the SwissMicros DM42. The design philosophy is to stick with the keyboard layout as it exists, but to adapt it to RPL.

You guys did such a nice job with the hardware for the DM42, any plans to replicate the 48 series? Too big an investment? The screen size is identical (DM42 is much crisper), so really its adding an extra row, and using two colors for the left and right shifts... I bet if you crowdsourced you could raise some money to put to new hardware...

First, just to be clear, I am not affiliated with SwissMicros, although I hope they will consider shipping some of their calculators with my firmware preinstalled when the time comes. Right now, the firmware is optimized for the existing DM42 layout. Compared to the HP48, the DM42 has less keys. So only two arrows, only one shift key. In practice, it is not much of a problem. Hello! Is there an update to this? I sold all my 48s for a 50 and have never really liked it. A "new" 48 would be fantastic!

Hello, I have put this project a bit on the backburner after Christmas, mostly to put my thinking cap on regarding rather serious memory size constraints on the code side. Also, I've been chasing an annoying memory corruptoin bug for a while, and trying to devise a way to automate the detection / analysis of such bugs.

Does DM42 have any plot functions? Any plans to implement them?

The original DM42 has the same (limited) plotting capabilities as the HP42. As for the DB48X firmware, I intend to implement a plotter like on the HP48, but we are nowhere close to this yet.

Plotting and graphing are now part of the base capabilities of the DB48X firmware.

I just finished implementing complex numbers. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f5uamq-r3MWUXaM.html. I hope to have reached quasi-parity with the HP48 by the end of the year. Next big topic is matrix operations. After that, graphing. And units. And symbolic operations. And solver. And integration. And derivation. A lot of work. To be clear, I am not affiliated with SwissMicros, I just use their hardware. Whether they decide to ship it on their machines is up to them.
