So good and seemingly simple. The magic is visualizing what the tree will look like before the process begins. I marvel at the shape of the trunk in this bonsai example. Nice work!

Well said! People often forego this thinking step and then find styling hard. Once you have decided what the endresult roughly should be like, it is a matter of putting branches in place and removing others. I think Tuesday a short comes out that you will like.

Great video! I love the trunk and primary branch design you created. Please show us an update on the tree in a year or so. 😀 What soil mix do you use for your juniper cuttings?

Hi bob, all my trees are in a mix of diatomous earth, broken expanded ./shale? pumice and ground pine bark. And whatever happens to be mixed in. IF I still have th plant, I will show it again. But I intend to sell a whole bunch of smaller trees.

Yet again great viewing Jelle. You have reminded me to get out into the garden and tackle my junipers. For some reason I always struggle to keep my juniper thriving once I work on them. Perhaps I should leave some growth on them next time I prune :)

@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat :) When pronung, remove whole tufts to foliage, and leave the tips on the rest intact. And try to avoid removing more than half of the foliage in one go and you should be OK As you get more experience you will get a feel for what a tree can handle

How long do you leave the wires on for?
@GrowingBonsai
@GrowingBonsai Жыл бұрын
Untill the branch has set, which is a none-answer. I leave them on untill I see the wire starting to be swallowed. Once the wire starts to look flat on the branch side, you know that the branch has expanded and is growing around the wire. The latest is when thinner (say 1mm) wire is swallowed up to half its thickness. In terms of time this could be within a few months, or only after a year. The tree from the video has not been unwired, but needs to be unwired the next weeks.
