I need more help please. I downloaded grbl g code sender file also installed Java. After that extract grbl g code sender file but could not find which file need to open to open grbl g code sender program main screen. It's confusing me. Can you teach me about that how and what to do.

I have had similar problems with motors cutting out using these drivers and the drv8825 upgrade. I found using a cooling fan over the heat-sinks cures this.

Yeah, cooling help a lot. I ended up changing the a4988's to 4 TB6560 and the NEMA17's to NEMA23's

WillysGarageNorway I spoke to soon. Just fried my cnc shield! I'm now looking at either the tb6560 or tb6600. The 6600 is a little pricier but hopefully more robust. I haven't viewed your full series yet but looks good sofar.

You're issue with the motor stopping is most likely because there isn't enough time between each step signal (step as is from HIGH to LOW). The reason the motor goes faster is because there is less time between each command. If the time between each step is too short then the step signal gets lost. Hope that helps.

Hi. That sound about right. I managed to adjust: $110, $111 and $112 - [X,Y,Z] Max rate, mm/min This helped me get rid of the «feedback» problem. I also had to do some more adjustment in the configuration to get it running properly, like acceleration and steps per mm. I will address this in another video. Appreciate your feedback and now I know who to ask if I have any problems :-) Thanks.

Hello. I try to connect my 3 Nema 17 motors to the cnc shield but I have two problems. The first is that the motors when they turn left or right they seems that scratch. The second is for the clone y axis. When I connect the wires to clone y axis one of 2 Y motors turn well(in position A) but the other turn sometimes and they aren't synchronized. (I haven't z motors because I'm waiting it ). So what could it be? Thank you.

You do not need the shield or the motors to install the Arduino software 👍

ricardo cueva Then you have to adjust your steps per revolution and steps per min in the GRBL code. You can do this in universal gcode sender. Search google for GRLB configuration. I will make a video on this later..

In the program the minimum feed rate is defined as a 1 mm/min but, I want it to 0.03mm/min. I am not able to change the feed rate in the program. Please help me, sir.

It's been a long time since you've posted this video with a question at the end but I think you're having this problem because the motor isn't getting enough current to run at higher speeds so it stalls. Maybe the wires isn't thick enough? Maybe your driver isn't capable of providing enough current that the motor needs to run at higher speeds? I'm sure it's related to current flow, some how!

Servos and stepper motors' speed is not governed by the current. The current gives the torque. The speed of servos and stepper motors is given by the duty cycle, it's waveform and its frequency.

Thanks for watching. I would be a bit carefull running the NEMA23 on the a4988's. But if you keep it in the amp range (not over 2 amps) there should be no problem. But this type of setup is in the "danger" zone regards to overload. I would recommend using something like the TB6560 or tb6600 :) or NEMA17's

hello ... I am doing the same for my university project. Done exactly the same. but i am struck somewhere please help me out. 1. copied grbl to libraries 2.downloaded java and unvi. G code sender 3. the moment I start the .bat file and open G code sender... it connects to the board via com3 but it shows a problem : grbl has not finished booting. what should I do ?

Its possible to have 3 axis independant pluss one cloned axis on the CNC shield. But if wired outside of the shield you can clone more axis but dont get more independant axis. For that you need different controller

Hi, check out this on how to clone your axis. I have made two pictures to help you: willysgaragenorway.no/2017/09/20/clone-a-axis-on-the-cnc-shield-for-the-arduino-uno/ To fix your motor freezing, you have to change the top speed value called $110, $111 and $112 - [X,Y,Z] Max rate, mm/min in the GRBL code. if they are two coil motors, then wire them in series, and if they need to spin in opposite directions, flip the wire order on the second motor then wire in series.

I experiment with my little printer steppers, and they stop too if i switch the polarity to fast. So too accelerate the motor faster you need more torque (so increase the Ampere, with the potentiometer on your stepper drivers, if the stepper can handle it or get bigger steppers). Otherwise experiment the maximum steps/second and set this value as maximum in your code

I think he got bigger stepper and also bigger drivers ;). I also have to mention, at higher speeds/fequencies the resistance of the coils get higher, so you need more voltage to get the same amount of amperes through the steppers. A good formula is to power your divers with a voltage=32*sqrt(Inductance of the stepper coils), as long they can handle this.

Fatjon Alku Hehe, yeah. I got new stepper motors (NEMA23), new stepper motor drivers (TB6560) and a new power supply (24volts 15amps). I have tried the new stepper drivers and controller in a newer video. If you stay tuned you will see how I wire up the CNC machine and do the configuration in the GRBL configuration :-)

What browser are you using Chilipeppr with? Also, is that your CAM controller? I picked up a toshiba driver just to try because i was using RAMPS and DRV8825 to run some small NEMA23 motors and the steppers were just vibrating loudly, after adjusting the current pot and trying every combination of wires. also i blew up my Arduino Mega because of user error, it went off like a smoke bomb. Anyway, I'm at the "adventure stage" of the process, got an UNO with the Toshiba driver today. I'm really impressed with your method of creating your CNC machine, just as low budget and high quality as possible. smart.

Hi, and thanks :) I used chrome browser to run from chilipeppr. But now I only use Fusion 360 for designing and making CAM (toolpaths). Then I export the g code and run them thrue the UGS (Universal Gcode Sender)

make sure you look into the bipolar and unipolar motor wiring differences. some steppers have 4,5,6 wires depending on phase counts

@@WillysGarageNorway I finally figured it out!!! the problem was that I used Microsoft edge instead of Microsoft chrome I tried a lot with watching your video go over the method I used again and again than I realized that problem could be from internet browser. chrome has no problem with running chilipappr!! I am so happy. now my motors are moving just like yours!! thanks a lot.

I have a few thoughts about a plasma cnc but I dont have the facilitys to do it yet. But sometime in the future I realy want to design and make one for my future shop. So stay tuned 👍

I would send gcode from a smartphone to an old CNC Fanuc Sigma VC1000 that has an old rs232 serial 25 pin. After that I would monitoring this machine (maybe sending it some command to the serial and the machine could answer me about start, stop, allar, type alarm, but I don't know if it possible, maybe yes). Could you help me in this little project? Thanks.

Excellent video, very easy to understand! But still, I have a question: The power supply that comes with the spindle can't be used to power the steppers!? Do I have to get a separate power supply for those!? (Sorry if it's a stupid question) If that's the case, do you think a 12V 30A power supply is enough for 3 Nema 23 2.8A!?

Hi and thanks. The spindle PSU is made for the spindle only in regards to power consumption. The spindle also makes a lot of electronic noise that can cause fault in the electronics and stepper motors (I never think a question is too stupid, we have all been there:) If you are going to use 3 NEMA 23 - 2.8A you could do a simple calculation. 3 x 2.8A = 8.4 Amps. This means that you in theory only need a 12V 10A PSU. But on a machine you always have other sources of power consumtion so I would have gone for 15A minimum on my PSU. But the 30A PSU you mention also works great :) 👍

Morten Lohoff I have ordered some new stepper motor controllers called TB 6560. Those can use higher current to the steppers making them stronger. I have not tried them yet, just got them :-) I will of course make a video about it. Thanks for watching

have you checked the potentiometer in the stepper driver.... and the config file? if you try to run the steppers too fast, they just block in place. Check the config for they Y axis, to see if the steps by turn is correct...

azeem khan Hi. If you are making a 3d printer it would be ok with the CNC shield and the a4988.. But if it's a cnc machine you want a bit more power so I would go for the TB6560 of even better the tb6600. Thanks for watching :-)

Hi, the start windows.bat file should be inside the Universal Gcode Folder when you extract the .zip file for that program. The «snarvei» name is there just beacause I made a «shortcut» for it on my desktop.

@@WillysGarageNorway I'm back to the Cronos Maker board, as there was a humming sound from one of the motors when I got it running on the Arduino with cnc shield. so now it's working as it's should. One prolem, why is it so hard to fix home to one of the corners on the table? and why can't you just run "it" to a start position and set it as home (the stepper motor can loose steps)? how to set the home in settings? How to set home for the XYZ axis with and/or without limit switches? I am working with limit switches but it's not easy to find room for them. It is aproblem working with these CNC's you don't get any information on the technical details of the motors and so on, just saying, I have an 3018 cronos maker cnc with 5w output laser and 300w spindle motor. I use universal gcode 2.0. My problem is that I switch to mm. And when I move an axis 1mm, it moves over 10cm. Think it moves in inches. So when I enter a gcode to mill, it look like it also moves in inches. Although everything is made in mm to put in mm on the program. My engines are 1.8 °. And has 8mm screwdrive. So $ 100/101/102 is set to 200mm. And it should vote according to calculation. But seems more like it does not register in mm but moves in inch. Can anyone help? Jeg bruker universal gcode sender vers. 2.0. Problemet mitt, er at jeg bytter til mm. Og når jeg flytter en akse 1mm, så flytter den seg over 10cm. Trur den flytter seg i inch. Så når jeg legger in en gcode for å frese, så ser du ut som den også flytter i inch. Selv om alt er lagd i mm å satt i mm på programmet. Motorene mine er 1.8°. Og har 8mm screwdrive. Så $100/101/102 er satt til 200mm. Og det skal stemme ifølge utregning. Men virker mer ut som den ikke registrerer i mm men flytter i inch. Kan noen hjelpe?

That was part of the problem 👍😁 I also had the setting $110-112 (max speed mm/min) on the wrong speed. But I got it in the end wich you can see in the rest of the cnc series. Thanks 👍
