Reason for the carb riser. Maybe it was to add torque to the engine. Longer intake makes more torque.

The carb "riser" occupied the space where an optional speed governor was fitted. Buses that were sold to businesses often had the governor fitted so drivers wouldn't "over-rev" the engine

The hirise carb adapter helps it to clear newer types of alternators.

You could put some plywood over the floor holes but actual patch panels would be cheaper now days. Great to see it moving. Nice to see DubWerks show up for comic relief. None of us actually drive this old stuff, we just continually work on it. Looking forward to another video soon!

When swapping to various model carbs, occasionally you'll run into an issue where the carb's accelerator pump arm will contact the generator/alternator. That's probably the reason for that carb riser you had.

I seem to recall that belt squeal being an option. My Power Wagon used to do the same thing even after I put on new belts and made sure everything was lined up properly. By changing the level of fluid in the power steering pump it will change the tone of the squeal and someone with experience and fast reflexes could be a one man and an old Dodge band.

Ughhhhh rustttttt,,,,,,,, !!!!!!! It was handy that you could see through the floor to notice the wheel was loose!!! Haha. Maybe just put plexiglass for floorboards!! That’ll be a great way to freak out your passengers!!!

Having direct cab access to that wheel will be important if your brake shoes end up having to be your actual shoes. Bet getting it driving was a huge morale boost. Time for valve adjustment, brakes, and then to park it back in the hedge row. But seriously i'd like to see a few more vids on this one. It's a wonder what a nice rebuilt carb will do towards getting something running.

My old 66 camper had a governer under the carb, that is a spacer to keep the carb at the same hight for the throtle cable. Yuo folks up there are killing me, no VW's here to speek of.
