Range Rovers don’t come around that often. In fact, this is the fifth one ever. But there are some things even the Range Rover can’t outrun forever. Namely, the march of technology and connectivity, and more pressingly the need to future-proof it as climate change ceases to be a debate and becomes a genuine existential emergency. But can this new one keep up with the times and take aim at the latest Mercedes S-Class and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan as a curator of the ultimate luxury automotive experience? Top Gear Magazine’s Editor-at-Large Jason Barlow went to America to drive the British icon to find out.

I completely agree, however, i'm sure in 2010 you could get a new range from about £55k. My parents got a 2year old one for I think about 38k. Sane goes for everything, last 'new' car I bought was a focus in 2011, cost 15k. You can only get an entry level fiesta for that now 🥲 yet wages haven't doubled lol

Just wanted to say how good this journalist is. Never seen him before but he has a really nice balanced presenting style. Most motor journalists are either doing OTT Clarkson impressions or whispering nerds like Catchpole.

Recently went out and looked at all SUV's in this class. I've always liked BMW but in all honesty after sitting in the range rover, the BMW seems like a base model Volkswagen. Range Rover has really produced a beautiful product.

Despite the mediocre review, every shot looks like it's from a render, in the best way, really showcased the more streamlined design of the RR; props to the camera crew and editors for capturing its new design/exterior on such a beautiful day.

Interior looks incredibly similar to the facelift Discovery - that’s a good thing, both gorgeous. Clearly the Range Rover is a step up, but I’ve got a soft spot for how good the Disco is as a middle ground between Defender and Range Rover

It's weird that in ~20 years of mountain biking, dirt biking, backcountry skiing, and camping across Idaho, Utah, Oregon, Montana, and BC, I can't recall ever seeing an RR parked off a forest service road. The rigs we see miles from any trailhead are almost always old Outbacks, Tacos, F150s, Rams and frequently Honda Elements! Invariably, where I do see RRs is in new subdivisions - speeding 10 mph over the posted limit - or tailgating someone. Sadly, there's a reason Range Rovers (usually in white) are labeled "Karen-mobiles" - at least here in Boise. RRs are great capable vehicles offroad, but it seems like the ability to project wealth when seen getting in or out is more valuable to their customer base.

I get what you mean. They do seem to be bought almost exclusively by status-obsessed dickheads in the States. They're also too expensive to bring to remote spots (like the trails you mentioned). Here in the UK, we also have annoying city-based people who drive them but there's a larger amount of higher paid blue collar types (like my brother) who drive them too. He uses one because there's no alternative that's even close to being as capable or as nice to drive. He uses it to do light farm work, tow out boat and then commute in comfort. He also enjoys fixing it himself, although there are lots of smaller specialist garages who will fix them cheaply and well. They suit a certain British lifestyle and there is something absolutely lovely about them.

The power train is very similar to BMWs X5, 45e also is a I6 3.0L hybrid system that also makes 393, is the I6 also a BMW power train like the N63TU in the 530 Rover?

I got caught in a flash flood, I had water up to the mirrors. I was sweat my ass off. My girlfriend was on the phone. she says "baby the water's getting high" yea, I know. we were in a parking lot trying to get out, water was over a few of the parked cars at the lower end of the lot, we were going up the exit on an incline. Then the back end started to float, I thought we were F'ed but then the front wheels caught and pulled us, water was splashing over the front of the hood. She hangs the phone up and says, "wow, baby that's impressive not a drop of water in the car" I thought, yea, that's why you spend $90K on a RR HSE, it was a 2005 Zambezi Grey. I loved that truck. I will get this one!

The wheel size and ride is mitigated with advance suspension like magnetic shocks and other gimmicks etc. I would assure you this Range Rover rides better with it's current setup as opposed to a Range Rover on 16s with static suspension.

Gorgeous..but it’s a Rover. Even if I had the money (I don’t) they are plagued with bugs. I guess rich people don’t care, they go through 100k cars like smart phones. It’s only us plebs that buy them used, having fix to them with proprietary expensive parts, with money we don’t have.

As awesome as it looks, I hope the Indians have helped the brits up their work ethics to build more reliable cars. Recent models came with ill fitted seat bolts and seatbelts, let's hope all those complicated electronic and hybrid systems last more than 3 years.

I heard mentioned in one of the reviews that Land Rover says these don't see dirt until at least the third owner. That said, they still do the dirt thing very, very well with the right tires.
