FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH FINNISH SAUNA AND SWIM IN THE BALTIC SEA (colder than it looks)

Today we are finally getting our first experience with the traditional Finnish Sauna AND swim out in the freezing cold Baltic Sea! It was definitely colder than it looks! After visiting the Helsinki and Uspenski Cathedrals, we headed down to Allas Sea Pools for one of the 'coolest' experiences here in Finland! We changed into our swimmers in the locker room and first headed down to the heated swimming pools! While they were definitely warm, the pools were not hot! We lounged about in them while locals swam laps until we worked up the courage for the sea plunge! We warmed our body temperatures up in the sauna then headed out to the sea pool! A ramp descends down into the icy waters and...it is DEEP! The water hits like a bunch of needles and you have to mentally force yourself to enter it entirely! Then, back to the sauna as quickly as you can! This was honestly such a fun, unique experience here in Finland! We ended our night at the delicious Cafe Engel with some salmon soup, meatballs and beet root patties!

Dan & Chelle you never have to apologize for your vlogs being behind. Family comes first and Mana Jo needs some quality time with you guys it's been 6 months since you have been together. As for thanksgiving it was the most emotional time a year without Papa Bingham is hard, I thought of you all when i was visiting my sisters-in-law having thanksgiving with her & Family. It’s nice to watch this as a Finnish person since I can’t really see Helsinki as a tourists perspective 😅 I’ve never been in Allas or Löyly etc and I’ve lived in Helsinki for quite some time. Have a great time in Finland!

It's funny, I've heard similar things from people who grew up in New York City, they'll say they've never been to the Statue of Liberty or any of the "landmarks." We're coming on Tuesday, doing some sauna research! lol

@@karlybyrd1551Löyly and Allas are nice places but if you have a tight budget you might try a swimming hall, all of them have saunas (separated by gender of course as you go in naked) and most have some sort of a cold pool or even an outside pool, and most of them are a bit cheaper 😉 If you have any questions about stuff to do and places to visit from a native Helsinkian I'd be happy to help if I can 😊

Yeah at the sauna u are suppose to sweat VEERY much. And that leads to that u should have some water bottle with u to hydrate yourself. That sweating warms up the body and muscles. And from there it relaxes the muscles and mind.

It's not sweat that drenches you in the sauna. It's the warm damp air condensing on your skin which is colder than the hot air from the stones. Just like a very cold beer "sweating" in hot damp weather.

Thanks for sharing! Was in Finland a few years ago for my first time visiting my Mom(From Finland) and Dad who were serving there. Brought back so many memories, strengthened my connection to my Finnish family and heritage. Really enjoyed your cathedral tours, and sauna experience! Both places we saw, but didn’t have time to tour and experience. Thank you for sharing!

Please, please don’t feel the need to apologize for delays in videos! Family is of the utmosts importance and Mana Jo and her needs right now at the anniversary of your dad’s passing is what you should be focused on. I’m just so happy to see the both of you laughing and giggling and continuing to enjoy this life because I have to believe this is exactly what he would have wanted. If you'd go to the cold pool first and then into the warm pool, the warm pool would feel warmer than it does when you go right into it. That's also the trick to get warm when you start to get cold in the warm pool. There's cold water pools in indoor swimming halls too.

Well, Daniel has Danish roots...so he has the chill DNA😉 Btw, up here (I'm Swedish) we don't salt the roads that much, because the wehicle (cars,bikes etc) get damaged by corroded metal. Therefore the gravel is much better for the roads and streets...but the gravel get stuck in the crevises of the boots. I hope you'll get to Sweden too❤

In Finland salt is still used a lot despite the ill effects. (But they only salt the streets cars drive on, not the sidewalks).

I married into a finish family here in the states and they have saunas in their backyards. Our polar plunge is laying in the snow. They are also used as a bath house.

Putting gravel is more enviromental healthy than salting. And it is not even close to be cold outside guys. I’ll start to wear my winter jacket as temperature drops below -15 degrees Celsius 😄 Enjoy your stay here in Finland! P.s. Subsgribed 😉

You have to allow the body to adapt to extreme temperature changes. If you are not used to it, you have to pay attention to how your body reacts. But it has been proven good for health.

it's not supposed to be a "hot pool" but a warmed up instead. like the same temperature you have at any swimming stadium i mean .. if you wanna find a hot tub go find a hot tub. swimming stadiums are for obvious reasons NOT hot-tubs. many people who visit allas sea pool are there to do swimming work-outs. it isn't meant to be a warm oasis for tourists. you need a proper spa for that.
