Lol cutting that tree down! Ha ha ha ha, don't forget my table was a piece of 5/8 drywall for the longest time! So was my countertop! I'll bring you a square of drywall, my treat!!! It will be a nice upgrade from the triangle piece of Durock!

Love the looks of those Hearthstone stoves
@OffgridwithJayandJen3 жыл бұрын
They do have a nice look to them, dont they? If you have watched earlier vids, there a quite a few about the stove. I picked this one up used for 500 dollars....I went to the local hearthstone dealer and grabbed my heart for a minute when I saw the 9k dollar price tag on a new one that looked almost identical.
@wobdeehomestead14643 жыл бұрын
@@OffgridwithJayandJen yep, crazy expensive, I bought one many years ago and I thought it was expensive back then, think I paid just under 2k. We ended up buying a Jotul F45 for our new off grid log cabin for 2k, wife wanted soapstone but just couldnt justify the price. Even the used ones are spendy, looks like you found a great deal.

You might try lighting a few rolled up pieces of newspaper and holding it directly under the stove pipe opening inside the stove for a minute or so as it burns down, warms the chimney and helps get the draft going. Old trick grandpa taught me years ago.

trick/tip: to start a cold stove (add some paper balls in before the actual wood fire.. just enough the pipes get temperate heat...then add wood and re-start the fire (saw it on youtube ... smaller cabin/shed built video).. Hope you had a good Christmas day with friends n family.. its also a good time to eat some chicken/cow liver noodle soup (mostly chunky well done liver)... lastly put the tree by a front window.. battery powered of course.. when you're at the cabin.. no noise...stay safe n warm.. Have a lovely good New Year and a new decade to catch your dreams n wishes.. GOD BLESS.

Had the same situation with two 90 degree turns in the chimney. I wadded up a piece of news paper and started that to warm the flue before I lit the paper or under the tinder. Rolled the paper up like a torch and hold it right under the area that the smoke goes up from the stove to the heat chamber. Also, crack the door or a window when you first stat it.

Lmao, that's funny Randy. The couple who we bought the stove from did mention resealing the stove, but not sure it it was right before us getting it or not. The smoke went away quickly but not sure of it was because of the drafting or it dried out, guess we will see next time I light a fire. Merry Christmas buddy.

Hello merry Christmas. Greetings. I used. To install stoves. For a living. Any way.step 1 before lighting a fire. U must cure the draft since heat rises. Burnze amatic. Torch put nozzle in the stove. Or up tords flue. ..then light your fire. Shut the door. Open damper. And draft on bottom of stove ....1st. Fire. Asesome

Very nice wood burner. Will you install a damper on the pipe, later on?

We love the UP but was too far of a hike for us. Maybe we will end up there someday, on the next build, if there ever is one.

Need to throw a tarp over your tractor. But have you thought of finding a plow.for it. Maybe a ply for a 4 wheel you could revamp

The massey is covered. The old ford tractor loves to play in the snow. Still trying to figure out the best method for snow maintenance. Best wishes

Shut the door part way and the smoke will not come back in. It will draft better.

What will you do move everything up to cabin from camper area
@OffgridwithJayandJen3 жыл бұрын
Plan is to leave everything where it is. Build a new bathhouse up by the cabin or build indoor bathroom. The camp will be where we work and play.

I started to hit the subscribe button, then I see you watch "my self-reliance" That guy is the perfect example why not to watch you-tube...drama queen fighting with his elderly neighbors...totally feeding his viewers to keep his numbers up rather than being true to himself. A Cabin and 50 Acres is real and sincere...kinda folks you want for neighbors!

I have trouble finding the negative in everyone's channels, whats the point? Everyone has their own story and side. I know personally neighbor interference and relations was on my importance list when looking for our property. If that stops you from subscribing then I'm sure I wouldn't be able to keep you happy with my content either way. Check out my videos and subscribe if you like them.....that's kinda how it works. Best wishes Scott

@@OffgridwithJayandJen Thanks for quick response J&J. You are right - too easy to be drawn to the dark side :-) I make a point of reaching out to my neighbors - when the new guy took over our lake marina, I had a case of beer waiting for him. We have been friends for over 25 years now. Folks come to youtube to learn and be entertained...nothing worse than sitting down for 30 minutes at the end of the day to be entertained by drama...enough of that in the real world. You just earned my subscription! Happy New Year Guys!

Don’t you two believe in covering tractor and boat with tarps. They will both benefit from shelter, last longer, and look nicer. Tarps are cheap!

Ruth, the massey is covered and the snowmobile. The old ford is 72 years old and has that perfect look from it. Hoping to build some serious shelter next year for all the toys. Best wishes.
