First fire up cold start for my Small block mopar stroker motor in my 1968 Dodge Dart! My Mopar 360 is bored and stroked to a 414 small block, same as popular Mopar 408 with more bore. The solid roller cam with open header sound is amazing. Head phone warning! This 68 dart will be drag racing soon! Till then enjoy this open header cold start!

Ya I miss my 68 Valiant, started with a 340 single four barrel 4 speed, then dropped a built 68 Hemi in it with two fours and solid rocker assembly with gear drive, and yeah shit went sideways after that. Mid tens in the quarter mile, And forty grand later 158 miles an hour. I’m 68 and this video give me a reason to do another one. Looks and sounds really good.

Life long Chevy guy but as time goes by I appreciate all of the old cars now. The old Mopar cars had some really good body styling and the Dart was one of my favs. I still have my first car that I got when I was 16. It's a 1970 Nova coupe that originally had inline 230 6 and a three speed. Saved my money up and my dad and I swapped in a 327 and Muncie 4 speed. I will probably do some kind of stroker in it even though the 327 has beem a really good motor, It just never had a lot of low end torque.

When I was a High School kid in the late 70's, I'd drive the 1 1/2 hours from my house to Maple Grove raceway and race brackets on the weekends. If I was winning, the races would go till 10 or so at night. It gets pretty cold in October / November up in the mountains, so instead of taking the ramps out of my trunk and putting the exhaust back on the open headers, I'd drive home, down the Pennsylvania Turnpike with open headers, then get back to my house around midnight or later with the open headers...I was the youngest guy in the neighborhood, so I was always the topic of conversation... 🙂

I think everyone is nervous at this point. I know I was after I installed my Brenspeed supercharger. 76 pages of instructions later after 6 days of work I was almost ready. Last couple of things were filling the new cooling system for the supercharger and loading the new tune into the ECU. It was a pretty complex job for a person doing it for the first time. More electrical work than I expected, right down to moving some wire locations on the EUC connector. There were 3 ECU connectors and the smallest one was something like 40 pins. De-pinning and moving some of those wires to new pin locations in one of the large connectors was way more than I had bargained for. There were other connectors that required de-pinning and moving wires around. There was new wiring for the new boost-a-pump and the coolant pump for the supercharger. New intake manifold, new throttle body, new fuel rails, new spark plugs, new belt system, an additional radiator, supercharger head-unit and new tune. So much to go wrong. Turning the key for the first time was a nail biter. So many things running through my head. It started on the first turn of the key. I let it run for 20 minutes, checking for leaks, over-heating, smoke out of the exhausts. Nothing. So, I put the front bumper back on plus all the other parts that connected to it and took it out for a test run on the freeway. Everything was going good, so I gave it half throttle and suddenly I could smell coolant and steam was piling out from under the hood. I started back home, keeping a close eye on the cylinder head temp gauge. When it got high enough to go into limp mode, I shut it down to cool. I nursed it back to the near-by gas station, where I typically bought my gas. Been there hundreds of times. The woman would not lend me a bucket to fill the rad!! Company policy. No lending out tools, not even the floor washing bucket. Not even if I gave her $60 to keep until I brought the bucket back. I had to continue on, low on coolant Thereafter, I shut it down before it went into limp mode. I was about 3 minutes from home normally. 45 minutes later it was back in the garage. There was coolant all over the engine. Impossible to see the source. So I filled it back up with coolant, so I could see where it was leaking from. No luck. It wasn’t leaking. WTF? I called a friend to look in the engine bay while I ran the throttle. Still no leak! Then I gave it a good dose of throttle a bam, coolant everywhere. A clip-on coolant connector was the culprit. Only this time it came right off, so we could see where the leak came from. After clipping it back on and refilling the coolant again, we ran another test. No leak. Of all the things I did, to install that supercharger, I must have not fully engaged that one clip. I must have pushed down only hard enough to get one side of the clip, clipped down. So there was no leak, except under lots of throttle. Just that one little thing and I could have cooked that engine. I tried not to think of all the other things I could have made a tiny, but fatal mistake on. Took me hours to wash all that smelly coolant out of the engine bay.

He was like a grandfather to me but that day he hated my guts! He was a big man and he ran over and told me to shut it off! I said I couldn't. He didn't know about cam break in? My first car was a 73 Plymouth Duster, but as I got to know Mopars, my dream was a 340 Dart. or Barracuda. The 340 was my Mopar crush!

As a neighbor I would love and appreciate that sound. What I hate is the sound of the little 4 bangers running around with buzzed exhaust systems thinking they have a hotrod. You my friend have the real thing!

Beautiful car...love the color!!! Sounds outrageous!! I had a '69 GTS with the 383 cu. in. motor. I worked it a lot and it ran high 12's in the 1/4 mile.

Sounds great! Was wondering where you've been, but you've been busy. Re: fuel line: the braid section between the 2 bowl tubes is a tad short. Can tell by way the braid is distorting. Just like with elec wire, u don't want to pull it taut between 2 hard points...won't live with temp variations, vibration, etc.. Add 3/8" and let it bow a bit between bowls and you'll be golden. (Don't want to be watching a fire vid) :) Rock on!

Remember those days... Summit was where I got almost everything from and then it was 🇺🇸 made. But as I got older, my love is now for guitars , they are a lot less money, up keep and they don't pit or rust ( I'm from the N.E.). 😀

I'd be a little concerned that it's happening at such low "carburetor" fuel pressure levels. Probably under or about 10 psi? Too far back for me to remember those days. LOL

Could there be a manufacturing fault though? I know that it's possible: even Volkswagen group had problems with their aluminum wheels leaking air...through the aluminum!! They had manufacturing defects in their production with the material itself ending up being too porous which leads to letting air through the seemingly intact wheels!

Good to know I'm not the only one driving around at damn near 16 volts! lol saw your voltmeter. My regulator took a crap so I've been driving around at 16 to 18V, nothing on fire yet, apart from my ignition system which is probably loving it! Do you have an internally regulated alternator? Sounds fockin' A btw :D

My Neighbor in the Early 70's had a 1963 Dart with the Button Box. He pushed it out of his Garage before Firing it up. He would run open on a weekend night. The car Rattled the Windows in many homes. Anywhere between 2-4 am He would come home on a tear, We heard him for a long distance. He cut the Motor about a mile away and he learned the point so He could coast all the way into the Garage.Thank Randy for that first joint. My Mom found the Roach.
