First game of Xenos Rampant - WWII Americans vs Germans

Okay, this is unusual. but we wanted to try it out. As I have no futuristic models, but wanted to try Xenos Rampant, I decided to have a game using my American and German WWII figures, as I don't use them for anything else and thought it was worth a go. Graham came round to my place and we had a go. I have only played once, and Graham not at all, so we knew there would be a big learning curve. But it was fun and we learned a lot. I hope you enjoy the game, which is longer than I usually do, but stick with it. Plenty of errors, so please point out any more you see, we will not be offended.

Lovely video as always Alec 👍 I realize I’m becoming somewhat of a “rules troll” in the comments section of yours and Graham’s videos. Sorry about that but here’s another one 😅 Courage tests works a bit differently in Xenos Rampant than in LR. Firstly, you have to take a courage test when taking any hits from shooting even though no casualties were caused (representing suppressive fire) but when Attacking (melee) you have to cause strength loss/casualty to force a Courage test. Secondly, the -1 modifier to Courage per strength point loss only applies when the test is taken after the action that caused the strength loss (shooting or attack etc). It does not apply when rallying, so even if you’ve lost some strength points you do not suffer any negative modifiers when rallying. Looking forward to more gaming vids. Cheers! /Daniel

Also, I was a bit quick with my comments 😅I saw that you had added captions later in the game addressing some of the things I was thinking about. I tried to post a comment with links to some very handy quick rules summaries that Osprey has published on their site but KZfaq must've scrubbed that comment. Maybe links aren't allowed in comments? Anyhow, you should check them out if you haven't already 👍

I found the Osprey link suggestion very useful, so thanks for that. I'm a bit slow in learning rules these days, an age thing I think, so any help I get is appreciated. I just spotted a huge error, I spelt the book Zenos rather than Xenos, how I missed that I will never know. I think I have edited most references to it, or at least those I can edit, but it was a silly error. LOL, ah well what is done is done. :)

There appears to be a sound fault towards the end of the game. Sorry about that, not quite sure why, but hopefully it won't spoil it too much.

Thanks for showcasing the versatility of this rules system. It's looking a lot like you've only gone and gotten me into another gaming rabbit hole, just like you did with Lion Rampant.

Haha Bob, sorry. I was not sure it would work to be honest, but it was okay. I feel playing it with futuristic figures(space marines etc) would be even better. I will have another with Sam who has some, but this time make sure the sound is better, as the last game with him was too distorted by the other noise in the room. Thanks for watching. 👍

Thanks Bob. We will try this again, but it will not stop us playing Lion Rampant, in fact I have some games planned already and am just about to start my English HYW army, having just finished my French. 😀

We made several errors on the rules, but it was our first game. Another I have noticed since publishing the video is you get a +1 to courage tests if you are in cover. We didn't do that but will do now. :)
