HELLO FIRST GRADE! We are wrapping up our first year of homeschooling and are headed for first grade starting in September! We are Charlotte Mason style homeschoolers, so although you might see a lot of resources in this video, we stick to 20-minute lessons! I know it will take a few years for us to find our homeschool comfort zone, but for now we are embracing the trial & error and loving the journey! We are so excited to see where God leads us this year!
If you have ANY questions about our homeschool, please drop a comment down below! I’d also LOVE to hear what YOU plan to use in your homeschool this year!

I am using Exploring Nature with Children this year, those coloring books look amazing. I love that your science comes with each little kit and all the pieces needed. I am always annoyed when a science book will say that it will only need household supplies and it's guaranteed my household does not have those supplies!! Those science books are just wonderful!!! I am not always that homeschool mom that does all those science experiments and hands on stuff as well, so I just made sure I had an atmosphere that had lots of things for them to play with and do that with. Create the atmosphere like Charlotte Mason and I did that with lots of art materials, games, activities, good quality toys and stuff like that. I highly recommend looking into Five in a Row, it's so good for these young ages. Also Beautiful Feet Around the World with Picture Books. I love planners!! I have settled on The Simple Plan by Mardel, but I have looked at that Anna Vance one and I see the appeal!!

YES! My daughter loves experiments, and it's so not me lol. And I 100% agree, some of those "household supplies" are difficult to get your hands on! Thank you so much for for the FIAR suggestion, It keeps gnawing at me so I think I'm going to go for it! I was to try to find it used so that I don't feel too bad if I don't use it lol. Oh I've never heard of that planner! I'm so excited to get the AnnaVance one lol! I keep checking the status of my order and hoping for an update! LOL!

So happy I found your channel! We use and LOVE Logic of English and Rightstart Math! I wanted to comment because I HAD to tell you about Torchlight level K- have you heard of it? It's an around the world study and it is AMAZING!!! It's a literature based curriculum so all the different countries really come to life through story! And then it includes videos, art, music, recipes, etc! It is SO much fun!!! Torchlight is a little advanced, so we did level K for 1st grade and now my son is going into 2nd grade and were using level 1 which is ancient history- SOOO fun!! And Torchlight actually recommends Logic of English and Rightstart, so they all go together really well imo!! Just thought I would recommend it! Excited to follow your channel!! ❤️

@@raisinglionshomeschool7181 I’m currently using LOE level D and love it- each level gets better and better IMO!!! And we’re on RS Level C! I’m also gearing up to start RS level A and LOE level A with my 5yo! I am such a believer in both of these programs! It teaches kids how to think… not just memorizing facts! And yes, Torchlight sounds up your alley! The booklist alone is pure gold!

Ah I love that! It must be so exciting to do it the second time around because you already know what you’re doing! I look forward to the day when I’m not always lost in the sauce 🤪 What I did like about the idea of FAIR is that it can be done super lightly, since we will already be doing SCM history/geography/Bible I want something light. But I also like the way you describe how organized torchlight is! Ahhhh, so many decisions! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Oh!!! I just love your personality!!! You crack me up hun!!! YES!!! I’m obsessed with the planners!!!! I’m alllllllll about my planners!!! Go figure, I have 3 (homeschooling, financial, and an everyday one 😂🤷‍♀️). It helps me to stay on track. My son is 7 & we are homeschooling for the 2nd year- last year was epic, and most of the “2nd” semester we did it mostly on our own. This year is completely on our own (but we do utilize the Reading Eggs app- hated the abc mouse one but LOVE Reading Eggs!!). I have noticed that we are much more relaxed this year & he is learning by leaps and bounds!! I still have him on some of the 1st grade materials (he’s technically in 2nd?!) as I don’t feel epic was as on the ball with what he needs to know (sentence structuring, etc), so we are finishing up some curriculum choices to help him get where we want him to be. We do Indescribable & also alternate with God’s mighty warrior devotional Bible (& any big ideas/words/etc for example, “supernova” from Indescribable, we keep a running list of everything we want to look up on KZfaq science videos, research, etc) & at our convenience, we look those up & learn about them together!

I've also done 5 in a row and Bravewriter's jot it down! haha! SO for FIAR, I do like it, but I feel like it was hard to implement... a little too loosey-goosey imo... I loved it, but I just felt like I never got to it! For this upcoming year, I'm using Memoria Press Enrichment which really reminds me of FIAR, but its organized better. It has a picture book you read everyday and it has lots of prompt and questions to discuss... AND it includes picture study, composer study, poetry, social studies and science that all connect to the picture book!!! I'm really excited! Ok, and then Jot it Down... again, love it and LOVE Julie Bogart so so much... but again, it is hard to implement for some reason! I feel like after reading her book, I sort of use those "Jot it Down" concepts more organically and write down stories or narrations... but I haven't really used the specific Jot it Down project ideas... but they are really good! Let me know if you have any questions!!

Oh my gosh I just need to pick your brain for all of the things!!!! 😂 I guess now I’ll be binging Memoria Press videos too lol. Are they a Charlotte Mason style program? Would you recommend getting the Jot it Down? Even if just for the strategies and ideas?
@MrsPerdueArt
@MrsPerdueArt 3 жыл бұрын
@@raisinglionshomeschool7181 so Memoria Press is technically a classical curriculum… which I am far from! Haha! Definitely eclectic over here! So I’m only using the Enrichment which includes literature, art, music, poetry, and a craft. It also includes a science topic that relates to the picture book, but it’s very light. And also a social studies component that is also super light. So it feel Charlotte Mason-ish to me! Its all very beautiful and the guide is awesome at providing prompts to talk about it all! My plan is to use it at morning time with all three of my boys. It just really reminded me of FIAR, but MP is so organized… since I have 3 kids, I’m really looking for something that is kinda open and go, but still beautiful and inspiring! ❤️

@@raisinglionshomeschool7181 oh and Jot it Down- I think you could go either way… it’s not super necessary… but I did appreciate reading about the method and how to approach writing with my kids. So I would say it’s worth it to buy it… I also am just obsessed with Julie Bogart- anything she does is amazing!! Have you read Brave Learner? 😍😍😍
