Radio stuff isn't my thing, I'm more of a Smoke Signal kind of guy (lol) but I am glad there are people out there who can help communicate when the SHTF and just to have some fun.

What most people don’t realize is the principal basics are the same with Ham and Cellular. However when the cell towers (repeaters) go down, Ham operators will still be able to communicate both simplex and duplex if necessary. Most people just haven’t been exposed to the basics. Have fun and maybe others will begin to appreciate the strengths.

Yes, you've got that exactly right. And all of the ham repeaters are privately owned and most all have 12v backup systems that can operate for weeks on batter power. This could prove important in times of chaos of all kinds, thanks man.

That is a nice little radio for the price. I have two of them and need to use them more often. That is a nice part of IL as well, I spent 7 years in St. Clair Co. as a LEO. I really like the Shawnee National Forest area. Now I am stuck in a big city on the east coast :(

That's not a rubber duck, that looks like a 1/4-wave whip. A 2M "rubber duck" antenna is much shorter.

NICE! I have yet to install my mobile set in the new truck, but I have four UV-5Rs and was thinking about a mag mount whip to work the handy yakker with just for giggles. Will be taking the Baofeng(s) on paddles in Maine this summer (in a dry bag of course) just in case we get out of cell range. There seem to be repeaters in most of the areas we'll be going so it'll be fun to see how it goes and will most definitely shout out from the top of a couple mountains we'll be trudging up. K1WME

Nice Joe. Your going to have lots of fun. Is your radio room far enough away from Mrs. Kapper so at late night, after a second wind and a CC with ice and coke you can stay up all night talking to the world. Joe, I after I see how you put up your tower antennas, I might take your challenge.

Keep at it you will. I bet you have more repeaters around that you might hit, depending on what you are using and antenna. Be sure you have the PLL tone and offests correct. Good luck!!

BAOFENG radios maybe cheap way to enter into Amateur Radio, but BAPOFENG Radios wouldn't be the best choice. The ruggedness of BAOFENG isn't like ICOM Motorola Kenwood or Yaesu.. Even Connect Systems offer better option for the money. Going cheap isn't always the best way when selecting reliable communications equipment. You as a consumer has the right to wheel and deal when buy new or pre owned. To me BAOFENGS are nothing sinkers for fishing
@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
After using them AGREED, LOL. But they were my first cheap rig to at least get on the air. Now I'm using much better stuff, but I still have a small Baofeng in my truck until I get a decent mobile rig mounted. Thanks.

I always had a love affair with Motorola, even before I became license.I look at Motorola as the Harley Davison's of Two way Radios. I have to admit I have cheated on Motorola due to programming capabilities. Since DMR made it's way to Amateur Radio, I bought Connect Systems for the quality of Motorola and the price range that could agree with.
