I explored the great city/country of Singapore after I landed that morning. I hit the major touristy spots such as the Marina Bay Sands. Seeing things in person is 1000000x better than any photo/video I've ever seen.
Also, truly sorry, mispronounced so many places in this video. Marina Bay Sands* Merlion Park*

If we earn 10k, we have to transfer 2k to our CPF healthcare and retirements fund. On top of the 2k, your employer are required to pay 1.7k for u. So basically ur total salery is 11.7k. And if you are earning 10k a month, your tax for annual after all relief will be only less then 3k. For a total of 120k income, yes your income tax is less then 3k. You get tax rebate if you served National service, if you have elderly parent at home, if you have maid, if you have kids, etc etc. Alot of tax rebate.

The ruling party managed to stay on and get re-elected since independence because of 3 key factors : (1) They deliver what they promised yr after year ensuring there’s progress , developments, high employment, good education, affordable housing. (2) Clever management of election boundaries (3) Always on the alert to point out mistakes / wrong doings by the oppositions

Exactly. Complaining is the Singaporean national pastime, so outsiders may mistakenly think there’s a lot of discontentment here. But actually, many Singaporeans are pragmatic, well-traveled and well educated, so we know we have a good government and are proud of Singapore, even if we like to grumble. We have a parliamentary system on the Westminster model, with one man one vote free elections every 5 years. Typically 2/3 of citizens vote for the PAP in every election. There are 87 elected MPs, about 10 of whom are opposition members. (So no, we are not a “single party dictatorship” contrary to what western media likes to call us). The ruling PAP has managed to stay in power for more than 50 years, mainly because they have a long track record of good governance, which in turn has built strong public trust in the government (which is a rare thing elsewhere). Two thirds of Singaporeans continue to vote for the PAP, not because we have no free choice, but because there isn’t a better choice.

A few corrections...hehe. 1) Though Singapore has caning as a penalty to crime..it is only for serious crime...such as rape, kidnapping... murder etc. If found littering, only fine...no caning!! Do not be mislead 2) our retirement system...CPF, is one of the best in the world. CPF is your personal account with government. Nobody can touch it. Even not government ! A correction is monthly of about 20% of employee salary will be added to your CPF account. Employer will then contribute another 17% to your CPF. Total add up to about 37%. Where in any parts of the world....an employee would enjoy a substantial sum of 37% of your monthly salary being saved into your personal CPF account? Imagine...government ..gives you at least 5% of interest...and if this added up 30 or 40 years later, what that amount would be????? This personal CPF account...which can be used anytime!....need not be till age 65...can be further broken down to 1) use to pay your monthly instalment of mortgage loan if u buy a house...2) use for your medical insurance...3) use for your medical expenses 4) use for your children education 5) use for funds investment.... The big differences between US social security is...US..it's not your personal account in US, u must work for at least 10 years to enjoy the meager amount of $800..after age 65.. The amount you receive could be less after 30 or 40 years later as government may not have the funds. U cannot use it until at age 65!! Everyone still pays about 15 to 20% or more for salary taxes every month deducted from salary, then on top of that, u have to pay few hundreds for medical insurance, plus no interest for your taxes .....plus .you have to come out extra from your own savings for your house mortgage....and US employer does not contribute 17% like Singapore employers do.. In US, medical insurance could cost USD at least 400 to 500 per month for an individual! Even if u pay medical insurance every month, when u go to the doctor, u still have to pay for consultation fees of USD 20 to 30, plus medication fees!!!!

@aroundtheglobeandy if Singapore is where u can feel safe, clean, politically stable, natural disasters free, economically progressive enough to provide a goo d living and u can find happiness... everyone welcomes u to be part of our big family!! Singapore may not be perfect to some...as it is a sunny place whole year round for outdoor activities all time. She is small that u can move around quickly without having to drive for hours.. She is small and very close to many other countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Phillipines, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan...where within reach in just couple of hours for short trips. She is definitely one of the best choices ....hehe

@aroundtheglobeandy haha..what else are amazing? 1) u can live in a drug free trafficking country....as it is a death penalty for drug trafficking. 2) u can live freely in Singapore without fear that someone will point a gun at your head anytime...while u r shopping or driving or any conflicts. Possession of guns is a death penalty! 3) Be u rich or poor, and no worry that u be kidnapped! Kidnapping is a death penalty! That's explain why kids in Singapore they can commute to school even without parents with them. In the US, before age 12, u must be accompanied by your parents when outdoor at all times! 4) for women....your mother, sisters, girlfriends or wife....less worry ....as raping in Singapore is a serious crime with penalty. A few weeks ago, a Japanese guy raped a drunk young lady...he is given 17 years in jail and 20 strokes of cane! 5) In Singapore, no worry about illegal immigrants.. that would cause u harm or carrying out illegal activities... as one would be caned if found for illegal stay! The list can go one....hehe

Most infrastructures in Singapore are linked. That bridge linking to the Gardens by the Bay is not just for the hotel guests, its for all visitors, please use it freely. and we do have elections every 4-5 years, its just that most citizens still believe in the current government's vision for the country, so they got reelected over and again, while minorities opposition parties supervise their doings.

He's not stereotyping but illustrating what he knows about Singapore as a foreigner. You may correct him on the areas he has misunderstood such as getting caned for littering and "Singapore and Malaysia gained independence at the same time". Malaysia gained independence in 1957 and Singapore became a self-governing state in 1959. Lee Kuan Yew was elected on a universal suffrage, one-man-one-vote system by 71% of the people to become the first prime minister. The party he led won 54% of vote share and became the first ruling party. In 1963, Lee Kuan Yew led Singapore to merger with Malaysia and in 1965, fearing the ruling power would fall into the hands of the Chinese, the Malaysian parliament forced Singapore to leave the Federation to become independent.
