Basra, Iraq ➖ After catching the overnight train from Baghdad, we arrived in Basra at 4:30am. We hunted for a hotel to catch up on a few hours of sleep and then made our way out to explore the city. Our first stop was a trendy cafe called Nook to get some coffee and a bite to eat. We then visited a local market where we met the friendly Basra locals and went on a buying spree! A great first experience here in Southern Iraq!

The guy with a beard and turban that you saw on that old Iraqi bill is not a judge but an Arab mathematician called Ibn Al-Haitham from medieval Basra who is known to be the father of modern optics. It’s a shame that some Iraqis don’t know their own history.

I’ve seen a version of this video on Mac’s channel, good gob 😊, the guy at the currency exchange shop apparently doesn’t have those old bills in stock but he offered to order some for you since he can’t sell you the one you were holding simply because it’s not his, it belongs to the other guy. So basically you were talking to the wrong person😉, thankfully Mac was there and he understood the situation so he offered the money to the actual owner😊 take care😊

Please visit Federal Iraq. I'd love to see more creators visiting. I recommend going Spring or Fall to avoid extreme heat/cold.
