Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left January 10, 2016. We started this KZfaq channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Kara, you don't have to honour a hug from anyone and everyone. That last guy was outright creepy. Love you both for that constant smile on your faces and being so open to this chaos that is India. But don't let your guard down. Hope you enjoyed Holi without any incidents as Vrindavan is famous for them.

It's funny seeing the differences in cultures. In places like Brazil if you don't greet people with a hug and kiss it would be pretty strange!

Love travelling by train in India. We travel frequently by AC 1st class 2 tier on the Darjiling Mail train between Kolkata and Siliguri. It's an overnight journey and you get to see a beautiful Indian sunrise over the plains. You also cross the mighty Ganga River at Farraka in the middle of the night. We love to hear the train staff selling chai and breakfast early in the morning. It's a great journey.

Hey thanks for the recommendations! We've been up into the hills to Kalimpong as that's where my father in law comes from. The route from Siliguri up the Teesta Valley is a wonder to behold :)

+Yevodee It depends on which train you travel. Indian trains are meant for all sections of the society from Rich to poor. There are quite a few better trains than these like Rajdhani which travel between capital New Delhi to other state capitals in India. Then there are Shatabdis, Duranto and many more. Overall Indian railways is spending on Infrastructure now. In June this year new sets of semi high speed trains called train 18 because this is 2018 and Train 20 in 2020 will be introduced and a bullet train by 2022. So in two to three years the experience on Indian trains will be better. I agree currently most of the trains are quite run down.
@yevodee4024
@yevodee4024 6 жыл бұрын
+ Somesh Redkar Thank you for that information :-) ... *BUT* as I am of Indian origin myself, and had spent about 30 years in India, I am fairly well aware of Rajdhani, Shatabdis, Durontos, and also of the other so-called super-fast express trains,. The bullet train is more of a political stunt, than a necessity in India at this point of time. While my complaint is probably an oft-repeated one, the fact is that it wold be much wiser to improve the general state of trains in India, before embarking on such "ambitious" projects.
@someshredkar4253
@someshredkar4253 6 жыл бұрын
+Yevodee I couldn't agree more that bullet trains should not have been a priority. But as i stated earlier with thd introduction of semi high speed trains and turning 600 stations into world class experience, the total journey in India will be different experience in 3 to 4 years. Just 10 years back India had very bad airports but now we have world class airports in 25 cities including Delhi and Mumbai on top. Same things with expressways. Hopefully with the clean india campaign and various infrastructural projects, the country will be better by 2022.
@someshredkar4253
@someshredkar4253 6 жыл бұрын
+Yevodee I am not trying to be defensive. Yes due to high population there is dirt, unemployment etc. You visit once in two years but I stay here I see the difference everyday. Airports are just one example which I gave. In Mumbai currently lot of infrastructural projects are going on and so are in other cities. You shouldn't forget that we are still a developing country. Corrupt politicians was mostly in the rule of Congress. With the current BJP rule there is less corruption. Clean India Campaign is not a Gimmick but a reality. Sanitation coverage in India was just over 50% in 2011 but now it is 85%. By October 2019 it will be 100%. There are plastic ban in most of the states. In Maharashtra the plastic ban has been introduced this month and I can see the results. Have you heard of Afroz shah and his bleach cleaning at Versova? Now similar bleach cleaning activities take place every week in all the beaches of Mumbai like Juhu, Dadar, Mahim etc. You may follow Swatch bharat abhiyan or clean India Campaign on Twitter to check the results. Earlier there was no Waste segregation but now in every city of India and even in villages people segregate dry waste. Important tourist ateas and railway stations will be given a facelift and corporates will take care of them. I agree this is just a beginning and there are many areas still dirty but may be I am too optimistic and a regular follower on Twitter of Clean India Campaign. I am a member of Clean Parle ( a suburb of Mumbai ) so I know the progress of this campaign. The most important thing is behavioural change which is happening but not to the extent it should be and not too soon unfortunately.

From an indian, this kind of music is very stereotypical and offensive, it is edited to a point where the lyrics make no sense , the only place ive heard this type of music is in vloggers videos. If any travel vlogger is reading this, pleasr use real bollywood music rather than these offensive edits.

It’s hard to trust the rickshaw people, especially because they know you’re not from that particular country and you don’t know what they’re saying! What I always do is call a taxi service before hand and they come to my location to pick me up and stay with me the whole day. The only advantage I have is knowing the language but it’s still very nerve wrecking!!!!

Hey Nate and Kara, I’m from India and must confess I hit the subscribe button after watching just one video of yours. It was about the amazing Vietnamese coffee that had me drooling. So listen, I am really happy that you guys are enjoying your visit to India and hope you leave my country with amazing memories so that you do come back and also bring some friends along. It is heartening to note that quite a few people in their comments have mentioned about how friendly Indians are and I agree they really are. But that hug from that tuk tuk guy was more of an act of perversion than warmth. It’s refreshing to see Nara being so open to all things Indian and it’s precisely for this reason that I would request you guys to be a bit more prepared when you guys move from place to place in India. Please use more of professional services like Ola and Uber and avoid getting overcharged which I’m sure you must have been several times till now. It would also be a lot safer. I don’t know if you’ll read this comment but in the spirit of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ (guest is an embodiment of god), as your host I felt it was my duty to give my two cents on this so that you do visit us again and again and again because my friends even a lifetime is too short to fully experience the marvel that India is. Best wishes and love. P.S. Contrary to the popular opinion, i love the background music you use in the videos. Could you please post a link for them. I tried to google them out but found nada.

Awesome, awesome simply awesome. One must learn "vlogging" from u guys. And ur choice of background music, despite the fact that u don't know the language, is beyond excellence. Respect and welcome from an Indian. Thank u for the wonderful video.

Travelling on trains in India is an experience as was your experience on the Trans Siberian Express. Winter (December/January) time is the best time to travel in India. I love Indian train travel so much that a few years ago, there was a family occasion in Bombay/Pune and instead of flying into Bombay, I flew into Madras and took train to Pune. Best Biryani in Channai - Thalappakatti. Cheers.

I cannot tell you guys how happy I am for you visited Vrindavan. It was my favorite town to travel to when I was a kid. The Bihari temple there, the food there. I miss Mathura/Vrindavan! Oh guys, it was an evocative vlog.
