So I finally got a project where using the lathe would make things much easier, as part of my adding an after cooler to my air compressor, one of the barbed fittings did not have sharp enough or deep enough barbs...and so the hose kept popping off. I tried multiple host clamps (small, larger, a small + large, two large) and nothing worked...then I realized that the reason was that this specific fitting had rounded barbed sections vs sharper.
So after trying to get the fitting somewhat centered, I used the cut off blade to carefully go in and deepen the grooves just slightly and then used a needle file to try and smooth it out and make the edge sharper. It is much sharper now and so hopefully will work. If not, I now know that I can try and use the lathe to try again and make the grooves a bit deeper to match some of the other fittings that were not slipping.
