@@BearFattfilm Idk why you are acting like this opinion is that controversial. Its usually ranked along side Kid A and OK computer on audiophile rating websites (like RYM or best ever albums). @@RS-zt5zj I am well aware In Rainbows is favorited by many. I love the album myself. My contention is that you stated it was their best record as if it was an objective fact. Also you described their music as "pure depression". Radiohead has never sounded sad to me. I believe that's a notion mostly thought by people who are not fans of Radiohead. I would not say In Rainbows is their "least depressing" record. It is their most accessible. There is a difference.

@@BearFattfilm have you seen 'meeting people is easy'? The band was and can be depressing if they intend to or are. Let down isn't depressing? True love waits? It's somber and songs like jigsaw falling into place are a rare exception. Why do you think this band is attached to an index that determines which album and song is the most depressing? They're depressing but fun and uplifting at the same time it's all about letting the audience know that they have 'been there' but that's my opinion

Whenever I listen to new music, I tend to judge their quality, to songs I listened to and loved in my youth ( 60's 70's, early 80's) Radiohead "jumped" when they appeared. The guitars, pace and harmonies on this album reminded me of Harmonium's first album Harmonium. A Quebec group from the 70's: I grew up in Montreal. Their lyrics were French, but their music was so unique. Pour un Instant , being my favorite track from the album, but aspects of the album were triggered when I listened to this Radiohead track for the first time

@@benjammin7729 Clowned ? David Gilmour is BY FAR my favourite guitar soloist, I have been a fan of and listened to Floyd for 36 YEARS, I've tripped, bonged, listened to them drunk, disected the shit out of everything they do. Jonny Greenwood is a better musician than Dave, any musician will tell you this, the guy writes for orchestras, plays just about every instrument known to man, hes a writer of music on a level Dave just hasn't got in him. Dave would win the popularity contest by a mile, hes the more 'enjoyable' guitarist, more mainstream for average Joes tastes, more iconic, and his solos will be remembered and adored forever...... Jonnys not a fan of solos, so Dave would get my vote for best guitarist, I'm with you on that. Best MUSICIAN ? Jonny Greenwood by a mile.

Such a great song on so many levels. Textbook Radiohead in a lot of ways. From the simple acoustic guitar intro, layered and textured into another anthem! In terms of the lyrics, it sounds like he just met somebody who is just NOT doing well. Bad day, followed by escape into a comatose state. Kind of a love song, with addiction thrown in. Like he's saying, just stay with me for a while before you're out of it! Could also be slightly autobiographical. I know Thom struggled with depression (no kidding), not sure about substance abuse though.

Perhaps more than any modern songwriter, Thom Yorke matured immensely as artist in front of the world. His first album was competently played, but not very interesting and made them look as if Radiohead would be one-hit-wonders (Creep). _The Bends_ was a whole new ballgame, still rock but much more creative. Before you get too far into the more progressive albums, you should hit Planet Telex, High and Dry, Just, and especially Fake Plastic Trees, a deeply sad yet beautiful song. _Ok Computer_ is widely considered a masterpiece, completing Radiohead's transition from a "Meh, they might be OK" to the world's most interesting rock band in just 3 albums. With _Kid A_ and onward, they became so progressive that they got less airplay and sales, essentially going beyond where many fans could follow.

I'd debate some of the lyrics that you sourced. First "As your bad day disappears" is actually "As your blather disappears" and the part "...I just pretended that I had. Words are blunt instruments Words are sawn-off shotguns" I believe to be "I just pretended that I was I a blunt instrument or was I a sawed-off shotgun?" (You can clearly hear the "or" in there when you listen closely, which makes more grammatical sense this way). I could be wrong... Thom's vocals are mumbly-enough that it is easy to find lyric debates about this band.

Yes, you have to like Radiohead and it has bad music... . What do you do if you don't like the voice (2-3 songs are still okay...; I have trouble with some so-called great singers) and Radiohead's sound became too watered down with the career and monotonous from the basic mood, somehow not from this world, you say intellectually, yes you have to want and be able to afford Radiohead, and it is only enjoyable or understandable in the company of or better with the intake of .... I own and prefer the first three albums and I have a lot of respect when artists strive to evolve while taking some risks to find their way.
