I think you did a great job explaining the basic gameplay and I enjoy videos like this. Your approach of messing around and learning it during a stream and then producing a more polished intro video worked well for this game, in my opinion. I've seen reviews/let's plays of this game from other content creators that left me without a good understanding of the core mechanics, but your more analytical approach makes things clear. In its current state, I don't believe this is the game for me, but it's one I'll keep my eye on after development has progressed.

Thanks for the overview of the early game. As a big fan of OpenTTD trains, this really seems like a distillation of that gameplay. The proximity constrains might seem a bit artificial, but really it's the kind of constrains I apply myself when I want a fun train map anyway (including limiting to roll-in roll-out stations). Also, I really do enjoy the video format - figure out how it works on stream, then give us the summary. Much more informative than watching someone work out the systems in real time, while I'm groaning at what they are missing because they are trying to be entertaining at the same time!

Ok, this game looks so damn good even for something before early access. I'm not a proponent of early access games btw. But if this goes the route of Transport Tycoon, man I'll be so happy. Can't wait to see what the devs come up with.

looks a bit like transport tycoon deluxe in a 2022 versions with more detail in every dimension. more detailed graphics, more details in gameplay and that's nice!

Neat little game, in terms of recent games it's pretty similar to Voxel Tycoon. Might be worth checking that out if this is successful enough.

Well it's actually _Open TTD_ with extra steps -- since you have to build the industries. OTTD provides industries on its map, introduces 45° diagonal track, and inclines with sort of realistic train physics. My fave is a rather thinly modded OTTD, namely JGR Patch Pack (which is, contrary to its name, a stand-alone distro of OTTD) with FIRS 1 or 2 and some requisite vehicle sets (e.g. HEQS, FISH, OpenGFX+). Sure, the graphics are still mid-1990s, but the fun and replayability is mid-2020s. On top of all that, all of these packages would fit on a CD-R and run flawlessly on Windows XP or 7 -- so a "Granny surfs the web" potato-tier PC will suffice.

Interesting video which gives me an idea what the gameplay looks like. I'm not sure though where this game is better than other train games; actually it looks like it's more of a subset of what the other games have to offer. When I first watched you playing Satisfactory or Dyson Sphere Program, it was quickly obvious what made these games different from e.g. Factorio (3D in case of Satisfactory, building on orbs in case of DSP). What have I missed regarding this game, i.e. why should I play this game and not continue with the already existing train games?

This game seems to be for people who like the trains in Factorio but don't want to go all the way into a full-blown transport sim.

Why use dedicated train when it seems like they cant unload so much in one place? Maybe let one train go to multiple stations to unload.. And a singel worker train that has more wagons go around to all places? Less congestion maybe.

Nilaus, have you ever played OpenTTD? I feel that game is the father of all of these games you cover. You absolutely should try it. It is like 20 years old and free on steam. Despite the age, multiplayer is still constantly active. The game has a look and feel of RCT2 (Chris Sawyer made both games), but openttd is a transportation management game with quite a lot of depth. Please give it a try!

Maybe it is to eary to judge the game, but "Factorio trains without the factory part." does not sound like a strong selling pitch to me. The train customisation part looked unique. Maybe there is an oportunity for the developers to stand out against the competition if they make that part awesome somehow.

I think that the title is meant to be read as "Factorio trains" + "colony simulation", not "Factorio 'trains + colony simulation' ". It's like "twin 'machine gun' " vs. " 'twin machine' gun". And yes, I agree that this isn't even close to Factorio. Maybe if you zoom all the way in, a "Sweet Transit" station will look like a Factorio station, but I made this joke about _Open TTD_ last year as well. Its simulation scale is completely different. FAC is micro, ST is macro.

Can the map be rotated? Does the train maintenance need a way to get trains into it? Is their a tech tree or is everything unlocked initially?

Looks nice, my only big complaint is that it's not "Sweet Transit" it's "Sweet Transit, Industry and City Planning" Transport Tycoon is still the gold standard for transportation games, and that was nice in that you could do stuff with the city but you had no hand in how they grow other than bringing demanded goods to the city, you could build your own industries but you again you weren't solely responsible for them except in your transportation moved goods & people.

first mistake already in the 2nd minute.. you don't connect it with roads... you connect it with rails... :P well rails you can only use in one direction? since when is that a thing? Oo that's not a conveyor belt Oo unless that change it: that will not be a game for me... there are enough games doing it right and let you manage the rails both ways by signals (which in the end allows more trains on the same track - and both ways if you can only place 1 rail)

Looks like it could be a nice game! The basic font I do not like. It feels so generic and stock. I know a silly thing to complain about but for some reason it just stands out like a sore thumb to me.

Not like Factorio. Just because both games use trains and signling does not mean it's like Factorio, a game like Factorio would be Production Line. This is more like TTD or or like others said Voxel Tycoon.
