I think you're gonna like this tent a lot... it's the reason why I switched to tents after many years in a hammock. Great first look vid.

For the side pullouts: get some sticks that are a couple feet long (I prefer forked), jam it in the ground, run the pullout string through the fork and then to the ground stake. I feel it 'pops' the sides out a little better than just running the pullouts directly from tent to ground.

Great to see you out with another video. I have a little tip for you for that tent. I threw hike last year on the AIT with my duplex. Those centerlines that you talked about putting a wife split on. What I would do is get a small stick a twig about 18 inches long and pick that car up and down then use that stick to prop it up and it would double the amount of room that that line would normally give. Then in the morning just throw the steaks away.

I really love your videos. Recently, I watched the Foot Hills Trail since I am gearing up for it. I was talking with the executive board director of the FTC, Heyward Douglas, and I told him about your video. I told him it was an excellent video about the FT. Keep up the good work.

I picked up one of these a few months ago. So far, I like it a lot. I have had no issues with leaking, nor any quality issues. I too am concerned about the Ti rods being very tight. Let us know when you cut them a bit; would be nice to know what difference that will make. I am around 5 foot tall and the Plexamid is very spacious for me. I am fiddling around with the doors ,as reaching out to tighten them up can be a pain for us short-armed people. It has held up nicely in moderate wind and rain. I have enough room for me, a 40 pound dog, my pack and all of my gear. It will not replace my hammock set up, but it is nice to have an ultralight option.

I used that tent the last 725 miles of my 2018 AT Thru hike. I loved the tent, but broke the carbon fiber rods. ZPacks replaced them and I broke them again. I received the titanium rods and do not like them at all because of how the tent gets stored. However, I will continue to use it when the hike demands I use it. I have switched over to a hammock as I am trying something new. Happy Hiking!

I have the Zpacks Duplex and freaking LOVE it! But... it's way too damn big for just me. I really like the idea of a lighter tent, but I'm not sure I could give up the double doors that allows a breeze to come right on through. The Plexamid design seems it wouldn't allow any noticeable air/breeze to enter the mesh side.

Im a hanger also.. still enjoy a tent at times.. but being in NY, NJ and PA.. the rocks and roots suck when pitching a tent!! Thats why i sold my duplex and went to a free standing (mostly) nemo hornet 1p and a tarptent moment dw. I still love my hammkck though. Anyway. Best of luck with it, looking forward to your next trip!!!

I love your videos. In fact, you inspired me to climb Mt. Washington. THANKS A LOT! Just kidding. It was the hardest climb ever for me and I can't imagine doing that after hundreds of miles on the AT and then continuing onward. Amazing. I agree with you that it is too commercial at the top. All those clean, happy people who rode up really didn't sit well with me either. I didn't get a self-photo of the Mt. Washington summit sign because of the long line of "lazy" people. That's ok. We're healthier than they are. Where are you going next?

I went to a a hammock after watching you on the A.T. I do have a small tent. Because a lot of places then I go are state and they kind of frown on the use of hammocks Have you ever heard of the River to River trail.? It is located in southern Illinois.. it normally takes about 10 to 12 days to the trail. It all depends on a person's experience backpacking.

On the Y tie out idea, maybe run a short line through the line lock with a loop tied on one end. Then run a longer 2nd line from one stake up through the loop and down to the other stake. You could then pull the line with the loop taught through the line lock to pull the side out. Just spitballing.

I have the camo version, and still have my carbon rods , still holding strong 💪, I am super careful with it , I always pack it back up in the stuff sack , zpacks sent me the titanium rods and have not used or tried them , I have been out a ton with it last winter and the condensation is terrible , hawk has a good bandaid fix with 2 clothes pins , he extends the vestibule flaps some with the pins , I tried but still alot of condensation, I just deal with it , I did make my own DIY ground sheet out of white tyvec (got a piece from a housing construction site) , let us know about the fix on the titanium rods

Regarding trying to figure out how to split the line in the head and foot guy outs. Maybe you don't but most UL peeps I know bring some sort of pocket knife. It's brain dead easy to make a tent stake out of a fallen branch/twig. Note I am a PA/AT dude so trees abound, your mileage may vary.

Thanks a lot for this first look ! Having one since 2 years now (the Beta V version), when learning issues with fiber rods breaking and puncturing the tent, i have removed them, and since, even if Zpacks have sent titanium version as (free) replacement, still using this tent more as an "altaplex" than the original "plexamid", without any issue (i am 5.9). I have also removed the double hook used for the stormdoors, finding it very anoying to use in the dark, and replaced it by a carabiner (same as coming with the food bag of the same company), with a prussic node on the main guideline (like on my beloved Gatewood Cape). One thing when setting up the Plexamid is to be very carefull with the stormdoors, and check that they correctly cover each buttom side of the tent (you may need to take care at head and foot sides to check that the bath is high enough too). Otherwise, in very windy and rainy nights, you will experience some water in the tent (yes, tested again few days ago :D )

but if you get hand picked products to review, don't you think that this might not be representative of the quality for the SKU-s people actually purchase? Unless you go to a store a physically pick the product up, even ordering it online might make the manufacturer and their distributors to send you their carefully crafted products. It's cheaper to make people buy a lot of their crap and replace a given percentage than actually manufacturer them properly to begin with...
@FrozensAdventures
@FrozensAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a conspiracy. I highly doubt vendors pay extra attention to people who will be reviewing. It wouldn't make good business sense.
@notloki3140
@notloki3140 4 жыл бұрын
@@FrozensAdventures reviewers admitted they get extra attention once their name and correct address is discovered. I'm not saying that's necessarily the case, but you said that personally had no issues with their products, which is fair enough. However if they are shipping hand picked items (which they do) your opinion on the issues people have is irrelevant. I hope that more reviewers recognize this and stay away from saying otherwise. Even if it's just that they open and do another impromptu QA on it, or check the boxes for damage, truth is they will always avoid sending you lemons.
@FrozensAdventures
@FrozensAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Well that sucks if that's going on.. do you know where I can find some more info about this. Did a certain KZfaqr say it?

@notloki3140
@notloki3140 4 жыл бұрын
@@jakec9007 This wasn't aimed at a specific product in general, just wanted to point out that a reviewer should recognize the nature of business, the position they are in upon being sent a product for review and not deny that the claims of people complaining about the quality issues are valid. At the same time it stands to reason that companies use questionable tactics to dis on others by paying individuals to purchase and review negatively (even though the products were fine) as this drives sales towards their similar products. But as a general rule, your experience is just that, your experience. You provide an inaccurate vacuumed perspective on a group's democratic result. I cannot take your word for it, especially if I know you didn't picked the product yourself from the shelf. I've worked in Retail for more than 4 years now and I know how people act when a big shot wants to get something from your inventory. You pick and chose the one that you think would work the best. We are all humans and work to impress upper class people or popular figures even if there is no secret agenda behind it. I personally do not trust any reviews, even if they purchased those products if they never came into contact with it prior to shipping. Especially early models, or demo models, as these are carefully build to impress and last. Once the SKU hits the production line, build quality goes down, then they start cutting on cost by using lesser materials etc.

Love the video, but after 5:00 started wondering why I'm so annoyed and decided it's because I'm listening to the review over some stupid club music. Why do people feel the need to give a review in a nightclub setting? What is the point of having to talk over music you set yourself...Just layers of noise to create an atmosphere of what??
@FrozensAdventures
@FrozensAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
The music might have been too loud or your speakers have too much treble. The background music like you said just provides atmosphere. I try and keep it up beat. It completely changes the tone of the video. If you listen to people that do KZfaq for a living they all have it. For whatever reason it works. I'll work on lower the bg volume though.
