On the "running quite hot" front: The 7520 Service Manual is available online, and details how to pull and reinstall the heat sink. Cleaning the heat transfer surfaces with IPA and applying fresh Arctic Silver 5 will drop temperatures about 24 deg F in my experience (but my 7520 has the Xeon E3-1545 v3 CPU...) I use a Lite-On USB optical drive (with Lightscribe). One of the neat things about this unit is that it will accommodate an M.2 NVME drive and a SATA III drive. It is a real workhorse, and runs exceptionally well on PCLinuxOS.

You sound like a tech guru! With all the talk of AI, Cloud etc as the rage these days, the good ol hardware has been absent on my mind. Well, I ordered one with XEON and 64 GB RAM today from Ebay. I already have similar Lenovo system but after years of use, it may be having hardware issues. So a backup was needed.

Just received one of these from my work with i7 processor and 16GB RAM. Seems to run pretty smooth but my company has it all locked down so no junkware, so you'd expect it to run fairly quick i suppose. Its big and heavy but then thats what it is really.

The Precision 7520 is extremely picky on which RAM modules it accepts at DD4 2666. Be sure you order it with the amount of RAM you are going to need for your use, as it may be hard to find compatible modules. I learned this the hard way. It basically needs the same module types as already installed by the factory.

have to dissagree - i have both ECC and non ECC, 16 ECC, 4 and 8 non ECC different speeds and all work just fine.

@Mihail Cheie: Yeah, that is to be expected. The chipset itself supports up to DDR4 2400. Dell supports up to DDR4 2666 but only with very limited modules. There is no issue at DDR4 2400, but at DDR4 2666 you need to be very cautious which modules you get.

HI thanks for the review I have a question is it normal for this laptop to take around 15 seconds to boot into the Post menu (I mean the with Dell logo Before it starts to boot from windows)

well and you gotta think about this. Most gaming laptops are not built like this. Tons of cheap plastics and maybe a little bit of aluminum. It's why I have always loved the Latitude 6000 series. These were tanks you could slip in to a bag and go. Too bad we couldn't get the best of both worlds:)

What about power consumption? I've bought one with 32gb Ram, 1TB HDD, 512gb SSD, 4 gb graphic card And the battery lasts for two hours watching KZfaq videos. Is it okag for this device?

i got one of these from work but only has 8gb of ram. also the system is sometimes extremely slow open attachments from Outlook 365. would upgrading the RAM help the case?

I have a 7720 with the AMD 4130 graphics card. How complicated is upgrading the graphics card? Just I just swap it out with a P3000 or AMD 7100? Thanks

Tuesday, April 19, 2022 With notebook computers, they do not have a graphics card. Each one has a graphics chip, which is soldered to the motherboard. You can not upgrade the graphics chip. You have to buy a notebook computer with the graphics chip that you want long term. That is how it works.

Great review. Consider buying this model on dell refurbished website in May 2021. Spec: Dell Precision 7520 Notebook, Gray (Skin Applied), 15.6-in FHD (1920 x 1080), Webcam, 1x Intel Core i7 Quad (i7-7820HQ) 2.90 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, No Optical, Nvidia Quadro M2200 (4 GB), Non-Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10 Professional What would you consider good price???

@@MnemonicCarrier Wow!, I was looking for a review for the exact thing he listed, I bought a Dell Precision 7520 with all these specs, was looking for the cheapest decent gaming pc/laptop, I got mine for 350! its doing alright on Call of Duty, Some games are handled really good with this pc, but then theres a lot of games that I try and is way too laggy and end up deleting them. Still very happy with what I got.
