First Look - Maratnz Model 30 - SACD 30N - English

We look at the new Marantz Model 30 and SACD 30N. A new duo with a nostalgic touch. After all, the original Model 30 comes from the 70s. It was Marantz' first integrated amplifier.
In this first impression we go into the place in the Marantz lineup, the functionality of the Model 30 and SACD 30N, the display and the special MMM-dac of the Marantz. Enough to discuss!

I’m thinking of pairing the new kef LS50 metas with either this or the Cambridge CXA81 along with the Cambridge Alva solo phono pre amp, which do you think would be a better fit?

Will be pairing the model 30 with the Focal Sopra 1 (and the Sopra SW1000) - I am positive it will be a great match, especially when adding the Atoll ST300 Signature Hi-Res player ☺

@@TheAlphaAudio Actually the knobs and the panel directly behind them are metal. The textured sides of the front panel (where the power and headphone buttons are) are plastic, but it doesn't feel like plastic.

Thanks to you... I just ordered the SACD30n to be paired with my Class A SET amp driving Klipsch Cornwalls.. BTW, where are the samples that you referred to at the end ???

@Piotr Konieczynski Loving it so far as it sounds REALLY GOOD... but some weird stuff... Like Audirvana on a MacBook Pro, SACD30n set up as a UPnP server, won't play DSD files but PCM files are fine... Audirvana to SACD30n's DAC via USB cable is perfect. Not the end of the world.. However, HEOS kinds sucks big time.. Search function is very weak. Wish they could fix that. HEOS on iPad, when playing CDs/SACDs, would be great to get metadata from whatever sources makes sense and then display on the HEOS APP. Overall though, a great unit !!!

@Piotr Konieczynski Apple works great but you pay a huge premium to stay in their ecosystem. For testing purposes, I used a Windows10 laptop and the exact same behavior. My amp is integrated Rogers 65V-1, SET Class A, usually run KT88's although I sometimes change to EL34's. It also serves as my room heater during winter !

@Piotr Konieczynski Although the tube amp is wonderful, it is a pain as there are start and stop sequence I have to go though. Hence, I am seriously considering the Model 30 and I think that's Class D. I am not sure how well it will sound on a super efficient Klipsch Cornwall though.. Somehow, Class D and Horns may not be the best combination...... Ideas ?

@Piotr Konieczynski Actually prefer classical music 80% of the time.. Then the usual suspects of Krall, Nora Jones, some 70's and 80's tunes.. Not sure what you mean by boys with alcohol problem though... Willie Nelson ???

@Piotr Konieczynski Thank you for your feedback.. I've wondered how much Ken's influence made it to the Model30... He is a legend. A huge loss. I definitely can relate about wanting less hassle as one gets older. I do have a turntable (Fluance RT84) and already have a Schiit phono preamp. Love it but am also looking at the Marantz (Clearaudio) TT-15S1but I worry about its maintenance. Setup of the TT-15S1 seems rather complicated.....My thinking is with the Model30, I can use the AMP input as my home theater bypass for main speakers as I believe AMP input turns off the Model 30 pre-amp..and I use my Home Theater's preamp functionality ? Does the PM-K1 have similar functionality (AMP input turns off PM-K1's preamp) ? Thoughts ?

@@TheAlphaAudio I'm still considering if I'll get this 30n as a DAC. I already have the Model 30. I have yet to get the PMA-A110 from Denon based on your previous recommendation, but I already have the PMA-1600NE as well.

Why no DAB+ and FM in the SACD 30N ??

Well... It will make it more expensive. And there are better solutions for that I think. If you want an all-in-one source, there are plenty of options, I think.

@@xu8 SACD is still very popular. Mosty in Asia. I think they have an interesting product, because it merges 'old' sacd with 'new' streaming possibilities.

@@TheAlphaAudio I guess I should say, it meets my needs other than not having a great Qobuz streaming option, which they could EASILY support if they could get HEOS and QOBUZ on the same page.
