I have the 100-400. If I have had the choice back then I would probably have bought this new one. Not so much the extra reach but for the sync.is.

I don't know how you keep a straight face selling one of these over the counter, Cheaper to buy a Metabones Canon EF To Micro 43 and second hand Sigma Ef mount lens.

Why second hand on Amazon the EF and Nikon F variation is only £849 vs ripoff OM £2400. Canon R7 higher pixel density beats the OM on reach also.

The Sigma EF lens is totally different. I'm not sure if you actually looked this up yourself, or if you are just regurgitating what you've heard on the internet. The Sigma 150-600 has both DSLR and mirrorless variants. The EF mount is a Canon DSLR mount. DSLR are the cameras with a mirror inside. The EF (DSLR) version of the lens is much heavier. The optical performance is also worse. If you adapted an EF lens to the M43 format, the AF performance will suffer greatly.

@@HokKan So if OM used the sports version The price difference between them is minimal The sports DG DN OS version is going for £1099 in the usual UK outlets so £250 more Although I've seen you can get it between £889.00 to most expensive £1,339 for the Sony mirrorless version. a far cry from £2499 OM version are you telling me they are using some special secret glass that nobody yet knows about? what more do you know?

The Sigma 150-600mm DG Sport lens for Canon EF/Nikon F is actually not the same as the DG DN version for E-mount / L-mount. The mirrorless version is a new, smaller, lighter lens designed for mirrorless. We totally get you're saying and the point you're making, but it's worth knowing they're different lenses!

Thats not an aperture ring on the back that your turning, thats the focus ring...there is no aperture ring on this lens.

I have a Canon 90D and the Sigma 150-600, I bought both last year for under £2,000. As the 90D [and the R7] have a 32mp sensor they have the same equiv crop factor, ie if you crop the Canon sensor to 20mp you have x2 from full frame. If you have an R7 and get a 200-800 lens you have the equivalent of a 400-1600 lens! If I bought the new Canon lens for my R5 body it is a lot cheaper and I would still have 10mp which is plenty for most purposes.

Oh, I just thought, Canon R7, 200-800mm lens, x2 extender, M43 equivalent 800-3200mm! That is what I call reach! Seriously cheaper too!

You misstated the lens optical construction and cited the number of special elements (6) in the Sigma for Sony lens. The OM 150-600 has 13 special elements: 2 ED, 4 Super ED, 6 HR and 1 HD.

Even at 2kg, I reckon this lens will be extremely popular. Yes the Sigma design will annoy a lot of people with the price hike but you can't get this specs anywhere else. OM system has modified it and put Sync IS at 6ev for the long end, if that's true and 1200 at 6 EV, that's even better than the 150-400 pro because with the built in teleconverter, I don't think it will have 6 EV anymore. It has better weather sealing than the Sigma and it works with the two MC teleconverter, you are not getting these features with the Sigma lens alone and you can to 1200mm with m43 instead of a crop in 900mm with either APSC bodies or full frame. OM system knows it and that's why it charge us the premium

The new OM telezoom is a full frame Sigma lens with the OM logo, which is why it's so big and heavy and unfortunately a higher price, isn't that correct?

It certainly has an uncanny resemblance to the Sigma lens, but no official statement to that effect from OM System 😬🤐

No - the size and weight is not because it "maybe" is a Sigma construction they have bought, instead of developing a similar one themselves, but the fact that it is a relatively bright lens, made in a metal housing. Their 100-400 is also f:5.0-6.3, so imagine that "extended" to 600mm, where it would surely be f:8 or less. Also heavier. 100-400 weighs 1120 grams. I have their 75-300 with f:4.8-6.7 made of plastic and weighing only 423 grams. And not a quality that can be compared to the other two.

@@majamogens I don't believe that, and have now also seen some videos that say it's a Sigma lens, and as one of them says it, it's the same construction and size glass as the Sigma lens for Fe-mount and L-mount for full frame 😉

@@JessDemant I didn't say it's not a Sigma lens. When Olympus sold the camera division, it was probably because it did not make a sufficient profit, so when a new company has taken over, of course they must have the company make a profit, and I consider it a matter of course that one of the expensive departments in the company , is the development department. Can they buy a license, or how to do that sort of thing, at Sigma, and put an m4/3 bayonet on, fine by me. The focal length doesn't exist on the m4/3 platform, so why not? I'm from Denmark, so sorry if my language is a bit 'knotty' (google translate - mostly).

it's twice as expensive as the same lens for other systems. Come on.. It's like melking mft users. It's not fair. It's not okay. Users will give OM System an answer for that 🤡

I would definitely not pull out the zoom by the aperture or the tube, I would use the control on the lens body, which not coincidentally has this function, to avoid damage. It doesn't look bad, I'm just scared of what kind of bokeh it will have if, after recalculation, the resulting photo shows the aperture of the multiple currently used (6.3=12.6 on photos).

So similar to the Sigma lens. Makes me laugh as I am sure other reviews say it is that lens with minor tweaks.

Neither Sigma or OM System will confirm who made the lens, so whilst it certainly looks like the Sigma lens and it wouldn't be unusual for a 3rd party to make an OEM lens... no one is going to comit to saying this with any certainty!
