Thanks Darren, got a kick out of this. I managed to score one for about half the price. I love all of the content contained in all of these mega box sets, but they all have stupid design flaws. Early Years has an oversize box, and it's hard to get the Immersion lids to close if you want to keep the damn coasters and marbles in the box. The Later Years is probably the best box design thus far, but that's not saying much, since it requires you to take apart the top layer.

i remember when "Shine On" came out. It was avaliable for a LONG time because of the price of it.

Have you noticed that some of the etchings are different on different people’s Boxsets? For example your Arnold Layne has the Piper album art on it but some for hats etched on it.

I wait for the super the super deluxe boxset which comes with a train , plane and automobile , all in pink .

Outside of fancy books and slip cases there’s just not enough of unreleased material to warrant that price.

The remastered Momentary Lapse is the only thing I wanted from this, and then I found out they dropped the mythical "Peace be With You" track at the last minute.

I was re-watching this review when something struck me: they should have put the video content on the big book and the audio CDs on the little wallet things. Not inversely! When you want to watch a concert, you don't really need so many images on the book. And it's not that often anyone sits through a whole two hours. And then, with the CD digipacks, you could put them on a shelf with all your other CDs and listen to them easily anytime you want and have some nice imagery to look at -or to differenciate the albums. So there you go: another thing they've done wrong.

The packaging has been well thought out to cost as little as possible. As said, one book with everything in, the CDs and Blu Rays would have sufficed in one box. If the need, the 7 inch could have been one disc to include both tracks. A Sony Blu Ray Player costs £32.

I bought Shine on in 1992 when it came and loved it and then Discovery which included all the albums except for the live stuff. This a bit over kill to me. I have all the concerts on dvd. I did buy Pulse when it was released on CD booklet with the flashing light on the cover in 1994.

I don't know, it's just a slight hunch, but I'm guessing you don't like it very much then ?

Darren, could you please take a look at what they did to PULSE and Delicate Sound? Is there any new camera work on these restored versions? Do these Blu-rays sound better? I mean their 24\96 tracks show any improvement comparing to the CDs versions that were released many years ago? Is video quality really improved on PULSE and Delicate Sound? It would be nice to know. Thank you for the review.

Hi maybe because i m french, but i like this box^^ I payed it only 315e, not the full price. First it is smaller than the size of the early box which is enormous but with small boxes inside. The early box is better with demo, unknow live, rarities, tv shows, and all the first period of pink floyd covered. But memorabilia are not useful, and we have 10 versions of careful with that axe eugene, SoSecret etc... here we have only the last 3 studio albums covered. But the booklets are more classy, big, good photos. And music ? A different approach. We have the Momentary album remixed and updated which is really better even for a non audiophile. Two big and now full concerts of delicate and Pulse, and furthermore with Venice and Danemark, on cd and bluray ! The only regret is pulse not in CD.. some rarities or demos, but less interesting than in the early box. This box is good for people who love the gilmour period, with live concerts and material around last albums. But good for people like me who prefers animals, atom etc. Because i can discover in good conditions last albums, and the pink floyd of gilmour on concert, and maybe it s justice for the work of the group after 80’s. Yes it s expensive, but pink floyd is dead, this is the last material, and we can have pleasure and listening music and watching concerts with this box to make Pink floyd alive.

That was hilarious! I've bought the individual releases since this came out of DSOT, MLOR and Knebworth and enjoyed them. Releasing them individually must have seriously pissed off some of those who bought the box set! Putting fake memorabilia in box sets like tickets I think is a massive waste of time and money. I've still got my original 1994 ticket from Earls Court which is worth far more to me. I bet you can pick up the programmes for very little on ebay as well.

Guys I think it would be a lot better if Target did a exclusive edition of The Later Years called the Later Years Gift Set. All it has are the 3CD's (that being AMLOR thru ER) and a DVD (containing the press kit which has unseen footage from the Division Bell Tour). It would cost $50/£36.89 if your in the UK. It wud make your lives a whole lot better :)

Hilarious! Yeah all i want is the Blu-Ray discs. I was a teen in the 80's so all that shit in the box would have been cool then. Compare this to Genesis Box sets that came out over 10 years ago the boxes themselves were a storage case. Each album came as a CD in a jewel case also with a DVD of music, videos, interviews and extra content. None of the bullshit.

Oh you get the cd’s aswell but even so still £100’s more than it should have been.

The only box set that Pink Floyd got right is the Early Years. But even that is cost prohibitive to us mere mortals. At least the Floyd camp had the decency of making the individual sets available in a nice book package a la Jethro Tull. You would think that from a band of such high stature they would put out well thought out product. Stuff to make the fans happy and not all grumbly and feeling cheated. Too bad.

Loved your "review," Darren. I played keys in a bloody Floyd tribute for years and would have little use for this monstrosity. I view most of what PF offered post-The Final Cut (which was musically boring) as slightly above mediocre to begin with so this is only for the brainwashed and/or hypnotized. I normally don’t mind ephemera, I think any box set should at least have some of it. But man this is overkill. Should’ve at least been stored properly as well instead of cramming it all in an oversized envelope…

Interesting. Your copy of Arnold Lane has etched the image from the back of the album, yet in the Super Deluxe unboxing his is etched with the bowler hat image. Is one rarer than the other? Who knows? I'll wait for the Chinese knock off copy that will no doubt have Pink Floyd The Later Yeahs written on the spine and other misprints!

It is the lack of really interesting material that makes it unworthy of the price (or even unworthy of existence): Almost no new photos in all the books. A conservative re-mix of an album to make it sound as if it was not made when it was made. Replica memorabilia that's already worthless because of its replica nature. All the discs could have been released as stand-alone issues (some of them already existing). But most of all: the complete absence of audio material (demos and alternate versions) known to exist for decades. Not even the slightest mention of Carrera Panamericana. This was a massive missed opportunity. But that's usual with Floyd. At least the books of this set look far better (and are more readable) than the ones in the Early Years box. In terms of graphic design this Later is far superior to the Early. But that alone is not enough for me to buy it, despite being a huge Floyd fan.

Why review it when you know you won't like it. Broken record comes to mind. Unsubsribed

Sorry Pink Floyd without Roger Waters is just another rock band. Admitted Gilmore's guitar was so so important to their best albums, but Roger was the one that propelled them to be a cut above the rest. Too bad he had to be so selfish and pompous
