What? Armstrong conducted dozens of successful flights and landings of the the LLTV in addition to hundreds of hours training in the sim. The Lunar Module itself was tested during Apollo 5 and 9, whilst Apollo 10 was the final 'dress rehearsal' for the landing.

Doesn't Neil look a little bit like Yuri Gagarin?Two of the greatest and eternal heroes of mankind.
@endymionandselene1769
@endymionandselene1769 5 жыл бұрын
Well actually in terms of raw courage Comrade Gagarin would have to have been Numero Uno. The R7 rocket back then did not have an exactly unblemished operational record. In one of the immediately preceding launches the R7 went off like a firecracker shortly after launch and turned the two pupinskis on board into instant charcoal. By the time of Gargarin's flight the cause of that explosion had not been completely resolved so Gargarin climbed into the Vostok knowing full well that there was a good chance that his next few minutes after launch could have been his last! However I would be the first to concede that this statement is entirely subjective as all cosmonauts and astronauts knew that their life expectancies were a little bit shorter courtesy of their chosen profession.

@@juancarlosgonzales7884 You know very well what I am talking about! It is an insult to Mr Armstrong and his family for those that give credence to any suggestion that he was lying about his participation in the one of the greatest technological achievements of the modern era. This was not a NASA documentary pertaining primarily to the Apollo flights of yesteryear but was rather in the nature of a personal epilogue of the man Neil Alden Armstrong made by those who knew him the closest, his family and friends, with his professional career as a test pilot merely serving as a backdrop. Like most adherents to the detestable moon hoax conspiracy your post hints at your poor education with its English double negatives ( Honest mister, I don't know nothing!) and orthographic (spelling) error: 'Until' has only one letter 'l'. Your offering of this guarded reference to the moon hoax conspiracy on this particular video clearly demonstrates your lack of sensitivity. I am somewhat heartened that KZfaq is at last starting to take action against conspiracy videos and those videos pandering to those living on the edge of sanity such as the zetetic flat Earth nonsense. KZfaq announced its first initiative in this direction only just four days ago www.thestreet.com/amp/technology/youtube-to-stop-promoting-conspiracy-videos-14845891 . I await the day when basic veracity and probity tests are imposed by KZfaq to completely eradicate the veritable forest of libelous nonsense that haunts its archives and insults the memory of very decent courageous individuals such as Mr Neil Armstrong.

@@juancarlosgonzales7884 "we didn't go to the moon! neither in the past nor now and we probably will never go... We are arrested forever on this planet because it is impossible to pass throug Van Allen belt!" That is an emphatic statement on your part! Do you have qualifications in radiology or studied the radiological effects of alpha, beta or proton radiation, the types of charged particulate radiation to be found in the VABs, on living tissues in depth as part of some course? If not then from whence comes the certainty of your comment? Have you bothered to check your sources by reading Dr. James Van Allen's comments to NASA re the survivability of transiting the Van Allen belts? OR Is the sole source of your 'information' from internet websites or pages devoted to the dissemination of moon landing hoax conspiracist propaganda? Did you at least look up any independent text to confirm that their offbeat stance was at least based on radiological fact? Your response quoted above and another of your posts differ as one has been redacted and due to the different paths followed by KZfaq comments I cannot at this stage discern which is your final comment. My etablet has your other comment as being: "He had a great life. Not too many people can say, he affected the history so positively how he did. Big hero." Why did you make this alternative comment? A person cannot be a persistent liar as moon hoax conspiracists contend that Mr Armstrong supposedly was and, from your redacted comment, be one who "affected the history so positively . . Big hero."!

@@wilma5618 The Saturn V trajectory took the rocket through the thinnest part of the outer Van Allen belts in a short space of time, so the dose of radiation was within safety limits. Each mission flew a slightly different course in order to access its landing site, but the orbital inclination of the translunar coast trajectory was inclined to the Earth’s equator by about 30°. A spacecraft following that trajectory would bypass all but the edges of the Van Allen belts. High energy protons are the main types of ionising particles in the Van Allen belts along with electrons, and not electromagnetic waves e.g. ultraviolet, infrared, gamma etc. Electrons can pass through living tissue without creating much damage as they are very small. The Command Module’s outer hull was made of stainless steel and the (upper) heat shield from epoxy resin, which along with the fibrous insulation between the inner and outer hulls was a very effective form of shielding against protonic radiation. The ISS at times passes through the Van Allen belts and so did Gemini 10 and 11 in 1966. There is no political imperative for another country to go back to the Moon as there was to get there in the 1960’s Cold War, which was a completely different time. Kennedy wanted to save his political reputation in 1961 after the Bay of Pigs disaster with a show of technical superiority over the USSR.
