First month at my old cottage in the remote village

I bought an old cottage in a remote hilly village. The old cabin was abandoned, so there is a lot of work to be done to make it habitable. This is a video of how I managed the first month of work on a mud cabin.

I was happy to see you make biochar using a very simple kiln and using it for this application. I follow a lot of homesteaders and off grid channels and rarely see this. Thanks for sharing.

Was enjoying your waterproofing then wondered why you suddenly switched to low over high felt at 23:00. The rain will go down the back unlike all the previous high over the much better low felt that you previously did. I hope they are stainless steel staples? Keep the faith. Subscribed.

I'm not sure if I understand you, but if you mean the door, when it is closed, the rain will not come in 🙂👍

From about 17:00 after the lost potatoes, you started to put the felt on the shed. you put the the first half on the bottom from the ground up and then added the top from the roof down. This gave a good overlap and makes it waterproof like doing tiles. You went round the whole of the shed like that until 23:00 when you changed to putting the roof down layer on first and putting the ground up layer over it. Rain will then flow down the top part and behind the lower one. Maybe I am see it wrong?

Thank you! I lived on an island in the Atlantic Ocean for a long time, but then COVID-19 came and it was time to return to the homeland where I was born. So I found this little house and decided to make it my home. This small house is in southern Europe, I paid €6000, nobody wanted it because it is quite inaccessible and in a remote village, but for me it is perfect.👍🙂

Whereabouts in Southern Europe is this? Doesn't really look like Italy to me, nor like Spain. And Romania and Bulgaria do not have Euro. But have just spotted "Italia" on your barrow, so perhaps your cottage IS in Italy. Would love to know what the area is.

if that house and its cistern are really old as they appear to be, shouldnt that cistern be flushed out and cleaned? charcoal is great to filter it off the roof, but an old and muddy container cant still be contaminated.

Wrong charcoal. You need to activate it by putting it out with water asap. That is for water filtering.
